Molokai is a great place. I'd follow along with another person's suggestion and try renting a place first to see how you like it. It's a small town on a small island.
In my experience what I noticed is there is a rift between the locals and haoles. I believe it's a cultural and attitude thing. Not sure though. Maybe cause they buying land in places and not allowing the locals or changing eventing. Just what I observed. 
I also saw your post about beaches. Beaches are few and far between there.
If this doesn't sound like a place for you I'd suggest buying on the big island, it might be a better fit for you

This is the mentality I don't understand.  They always say they don't want us there but come to Oahu for Medical care, buy a Car or whatever .  That view is kind of one sided.
