Not sure what category, but be prepared for a headache.



Play its safe, play it smart: call Hawaii ATF and get clarification BEFORE you even approach HPD. Make sure you provide them with any documentation proving that it is legal.

Do not listen to anyone else on the forum or at HPD firearms, as the only opinion that matters is Hawaii ATF.

If they give you the green light, politely ask if they could give that to you in an official memorandum/letter, or at the very least an email.

When you go to HPD, they will try and give you shit. Put on your biggest shit eating grin, hand them the approval from the Hawaii ATF and internally tell them to suck it, because they will go to the ATF to get clarification anyway.

it is not a shotgun as its not designed to be fired from the shoulders. its a official name is a Pistol Grip Only (PGO) .
Under HRS it is a pistol. HRS does not define a shotgun!
    "Pistol" or "revolver" means any firearm of any shape with a barrel less than sixteen inches in length and capable of discharging loaded ammunition or any noxious gas.

It must have an overall length of min 26" inches under the ATF.
