this form makes it faster for them to ONLY fill out the actual reg form they give to you.  you know the one they use to have to type out on CARBON PAPER.

Now all your info auto pops on AN electronic from and all HPD has to do is edit the relevant place for new firearm on new registration

And they tricked me into loading all my info into their database because I thought I was saving myself some time...    >:(

When you fill out the paper form they transpose everything into the database and have you sign a computer terminal again, at least HPD do.

Yeah the new online registration setup just saves them some time by making you do their work for them. I just continue to use my pre-populated saved copy of the PDF form, they can fill in the firearm information and let me sign.

Will this not speed up the process to a certain point, at least cutting down the wait time somewhat?  Seems that the time you wait while they are manually typing out all of the information will be cut down quite a bit, especially if there are a lot of people waiting.

While there may be more than enough room for improvement, it seems to be a step in at least a positive direction.  But then again no-matter what happens, people will complain anyway.

As far as i understand the online registration is in violation of the law "The registration shall be on forms prescribed by the attorney general, which shall be uniform throughout the State, and shall include the following information" The Attorney generals office has no knowledge of an online registration system and as only HPD has it , it is not uniform throughout the state.

This one of those issues that grinds my gears about this state - a law that is clearly laid out and has been completely ignored since before the ink dried on the legislation. AG office must be fully of lazy people!

I just submitted another question asking about who would approve the online form, and required digital signature.  I did it via e-mail so i can get a written rtepsone, Last time i did it over the phone and was told that they had no idea about any online registration form and would get back to me, Never did tho.

Well, you should feel very safe. Except for the cops and everyone bringing their ammo-less guns in there to register them, it's a gun-free zone. Safety guaranteed!  :shaka:

The forms that are available online thru HPD are for the purchaser to apply for the PERMIT TO AQUIRE a firearm. It allows the person to pre-fill the required information that ATTEMPTS to reduce the amount of time it would take in the HPD firearms section. There are additional forms that are only available at the Department and NOT online. The firearms registration is done at the Department and is input into an online registration system by the clerk or officer at the window, whereby the owner completes and verifies (serial#, make, model or firearm etc...) and signs the form by a touch screen computer provided for the gun owner at the window.

So i got a response to this question,

I Would like to know when the AG's office approved the online/digital only form being used only HPD, If possible i would like to be provided with a copy of the form.

this is the response i got.

Because there were many communications between the local police agencies and the attorney general, there is no one day, that the AG’s office approved the online/digital form.

You may find FIREARMS REGISTRATION ONLY at: http://www.honolulupd.org/information/index.php?page=Firearms_Registration

Applications to acquire a firearms permit are not available online.  You can obtain a copy in person at HPD.

Karen
