Aloha guys, just wondering if anybody can enlighten me.  I am a prepper, I have a small backpack that I keep at the trunk of my car filled with survival supplies.  I have a Henry AR Survival rifle, 22 cal, which disassembles and all parts perfectly stores inside its own stock.  Anyhow, I am planning to keep it inside the backpack at the back of my car, along with maybe a box of ammo.  Is this legal?

     [§134-25]  Place to keep pistol or revolver; penalty.  (a)  Except as provided in sections 134-5 and 134-9, all firearms shall be confined to the possessor's place of business, residence, or sojourn; provided that it shall be lawful to carry unloaded firearms in an enclosed container from the place of purchase to the purchaser's place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places upon change of place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places and the following:
     (1)  A place of repair;

     (2)  A target range;

     (3)  A licensed dealer's place of business;

     (4)  An organized, scheduled firearms show or exhibit;

     (5)  A place of formal hunter or firearm use training or instruction; or

     (6)  A police station.

     "Enclosed container" means a rigidly constructed receptacle, or a commercially manufactured gun case, or the equivalent thereof that completely encloses the firearm.
     (b)  Any person violating this section by carrying or possessing a loaded or unloaded pistol or revolver shall be guilty of a class B felony. [L 2006, c 66, pt of §1]

But seriously, you have had to have taken a firearms safety class to purchase your pistols.
During that class you should have been taught about this basic Hawaii law.
It's one of the requirements of obtaining a safety affidavit for handgun purchases.
If you were NOT taught this, then shame on your instructor.

Who did you do your class with, Hawaii has the most restrictive gun laws in the country when it comes to where you can possess and it should be a big part of what they teach you,

Similar situation but not quite. Just for transportation to and from where I shoot here on the Big Island, I asked this question while registering my Charter Arms AR-7. Can I transport it taken down and stored in the butt stock only, logically it's a enclosed container. Answer was a no go. Go figure.
