Apparently the front sight is supposed to break off.  That's why they attached it to a small part you can quickly replace!

I've shot a pistol match with a loose front sight before.  I'm guessing it came loose about 1/2 way through, or at least that's when I noticed some errant shots, or higher rate of. . .
