American Marksman - Amateur shooting competition
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:48:33 AM »
American Marksman is a new, nationwide amateur shooting competition!  It is being put on through The Outdoor Channel and will eventually lead into a TV show with the winner getting $50,000.

The way this works is you register at AmMarksman.com and participate at our local qualifying range (Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club)  anywhere between March 1st and May 31st.  It is a modified postal match, so you will be able to see where you rank instantly in your region and your division. At the local level a shooter will choose either .22 pistol, Rifle, or both and will get 2 chances at the course of fire per each firearm selected.  for one firearm its 20$ and for both it is only $35!

If you do well enough and progress into the regional competition (which for Hawaii is Vegas) you will get to shoot Multiple different firearms and calibers, all of which we will provide at that level!

One of the major draws of this competition is that it is amateur only.  No one who has ever been paid, sponsored, or been in the top 10% in a national championship is eligible to participate.  We know there are GREAT shooters all across America!  However, they may not competitively shoot because they are taking care of kids, going to school, working full time,  or all the above.

We have 4 divisions:
Men's open (17+)
Women's open (17+)
Youth (12-16)
Military/LEO

We do have a range participating in Honolulu  - Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club!  they are offering the course of fire; Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9am to 11am during March 1st - May 31st

I would love to answer more questions if any of you have any!

Our goal here at American Marksman is to introduce everyone to the joy of competition shooting. We've designed this to be a low barrier of entry but still difficult challenging.   It is so much fun being put under the pressure testing your skills with a timer and the thought of getting $50,000 dollars in your head.  Competition shooting is incredibly fun, but can be rather daunting or expensive to enter!  if we can get more people involved in the sports we love and the life style we all immerse ourselves in, we all win!

Do any of you think you have what it takes to be the FIRST American Marksman?

Will Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club provide the firearm or should one bring their own?

Hello JI808

This particular range requires that you use their firearms at their range.

Ok thanks for the info.  Just curious, do you know what 22 rifle and pistol they will be providing?

Also, is the first round competition a test of speed, accuracy or both?

They have, available for rent, a ruger 10/22 and a ruger 22/45.   the first round is time + penalty, so it is speed and accuracy!

we are always looking for more ranges!  do you have a range that you prefer to shoot at that we should reach out to?

Took a look at the web site a little bit ago when ren brought up the competition.  The test is both speed and accuracy.  It's a five target paper shot at 20ft for handgun and 30ft for rifle.

I had not realized that RHSC wouldn't allow the use of your own firearms.     I asked about the use of CMMG .22lr kit in my ar15, at first they said no go, but recently revised to allow it.
I am sure RHSC will charge you a pretty penny to shoot their firearms, lol.   I was tempted to try it out, but now I hear this, I guess I have to decline.

Hello Heavies!

Thanks for the feed back!   We understand that RHSC is a unique situation because where it is located.   We are always looking into more ranges, hints why we are here!  Are their other ranges that 2aHawaii members enjoy shooting at?

For Oahu:

There's Honolulu Firearms and Range (indoor) near Ward Ave.
http://honolulufirearms.com

X-Ring Security is building an indoor range further west but it's not yet done as far as I know.

Last is the public Kokohead Shooting Range which is where most local shooters on Oahu go. You might want to think about having a tryout there to get the most participants.

Not sure about the neighbor islands.

Not sure timing-wise but there is also the Hawaii Historic Arms gun show at the Neil Blaisedell Center coming up in March 19-20 weekend.

http://hawaiihistoricarms.com/spring-gun-show-coming-soon/

You won't be able to have try-outs there but it may be a good event to promote the competition.

Aloha guys!
As of this day, we have yet to see any Hawaii shooters participate in this event.  It's a National competition and there's a chance you can win $40,000 in cash and prizes!
All it costs is the $20 to register and $25 for the gun and ammo.
Just apply on-line at AmMarksman.com and call Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club to set up a day to shoot.
Given the location of the gun club (in a shopping center in the middle of Waikiki) you're not allowed to bring your own firearms...
But the Ruger MkIII we have set aside for the competition is BRAND NEW.

See you soon!
