I use COMODO.  You can buy directly, or through most ISP/Hosting providers.  I went through DirectNIC who registers my domains.

The price difference between COMODO and VeriSign is astronomical!  I tried to ask the VeriSign rep why so high, and never got a call back!

If you have multiple web hosts on one domain (<node>.mydomain.com), just get the wildcard certificate and you can use it on all your hosts.  $249/year.

DirectNIC also advertises GeoTrust Rapid SSL for $42.00/yr.  I haven't used that, because I need the wildcard cert.

No problems with COMODO.  Easy to set up and never had issues verifying my sites to  visitors.

Hope that's a starting point for you.

You'll probably find the best deals with your host. If you don't need a specific cert, then whatever you can get from them would work well. They'll probably even help set it up for you.

If all you are doing is securing a forum I would use the cheapest one you can get like the GoDaddy certificate. Otherwise if you are securing an online store or other high visisbility site where your customers/clients need to feel comfortable I recommend the Comodo products.
