Anyone besides me think we are about to get the "big one" soon again?

The quakes in Japan is part of a different Plate from the Pacific Plate.

I was thinking the same thing (about potential quake here) but then again, it should not be anything different from how we normally prepare, and still enjoy our day.

Both Japan and Ecuador got hit, and with Japan, after the big one a few days ago they thought it would just be aftershocks, but then got another even bigger one.

Note that anything over 6 is pretty significant.

I'm not doing anything different. I am stocked with water as always, although it is old water, been sitting there a year.

Quakes here are actually pretty frequent, but like mentioned above, the mechanism is different than the fault lines on the west coast and elsewhere around the "ring of fire".  So the magnitude quakes here are generally pretty low. That said, many places of high EQ hazards, the structures are designed for the events. Not that much here, except for newer construction on the Big Island.

I think tsunamis from big quakes in the Pacific basin are probably a much higher risk than local quakes.

If a tsunami generated by a quake affected me where I live on Oahu would have something like a 500k death toll and there would be no island left.  So not TOO worried.

Where I grew up, as kids we joked that if that house flooded, well over half the island would be underwater.  However, where I live now, I'm like a block away from the tsunami inundation boundary.  Lots of other, very stout (read expensive) buildings to buffer the effects tho.

In the last  7day days their has been 151 earthquakes above a 4.5 worldwide. Including a 5.2 in Alaska,

in the last 30days their has been 18 earthquakes in Hawaii with 1 at 4.6 (all others 2.5 - 4.5)

Coincidence?  As in correlation between locations of earthquakes in the Pacific basin and proximity to known fault lines and plate boundaries? 

Put on your tinfoil hats and pass the Dutchie to the left hand side. I'm not a huge fan of some of his farther out theories but this guy is definitely on top of it if you're looking for patterns.

That's why I don't want to live too close to the water or right up against the mountains.

The scary one would be a land slide on the big island. Could cause a huge tsunami and hit within 15 minutes. We would be a mess.

my wife and i were having this conversation yesterday. i used to work in the grocery business years ago when they introduced......bottled water. i was thinking,"who the hell is going to buy bottled water when we have the tap?" i still think it's funny that everyone hoards bottled water anytime there is a potential disaster while i'm also filling up my wagon with.........bottled water. now toilet paper.........

What I don't like about bottled water is after time the plastic starts softening up and not sure if it can affect the water.   I have water BOBS, drums and the usual mix of coolers, 5 & 10 gal. jugs.   In the event of a WARNING, I'll fill every container I can think of including the rubbish cans for gray water use.  I place water storage above  filling gas for vehicles or more canned goods.  Also time permitting wash all your dishes an clothes, and everyone takes a early bath.   

Only ones we need to worry about are the Cascadia fault and the Aleutian islands.
