Sako gunsmith. Anyone have recommendations?
« on: August 03, 2016, 11:54:55 AM »
I have a sako rifle that i need work done one. Tried looking online and a place called bolsa gunsmith is listed on the beretta usa page as a service center. But after browsing a bit online people mentioned that they arent that great. And primarily deal with shotguns and. Tried calling beretta usa service center left a message and awaiting their option. Basically i need a bolt and i think it has to be fitted. And i also need the chamber to be checked. I had a stuck case and when trying to cycle the round the bolt handle could move up and down but i wasnt able to get it back to eject the round. So my bolt handle sheered off.

What action mauiboi?
I know wayne at pacific customs has done work on sakos. If u have an m995 you can jus buy the bolt. l believe brownells used to carry them as they are all interchangeable.

Patriot arms jered joplin has done  our sakos.

Hope this helps

Aloha Mauiboi,

Yeah the trg and m995 trg-s actions are pretty much the same. The trg-s is the sporting version hence the s designation after the trg. Im sure Wayne could check your chamber and barrel for you.

Hope this helps, Aloha

I'd send it back to the manufacturer.  Bolt handles don't just shear off for nothing.   I can't speak for Sako but S&W and Springfield have done right by me on the rare occasions something went wrong.

Jc,

Read his post, he had a stuck case that he couldnt eject. And he sheared off the handle presumably by hitting to try to get it open. I may be wrong and mauiboi can correct me if l am. But l assumed it was a reloaded round which would most likely void any type of help the mfr would give you.

We have quite a few of these actions and have built many, many custom rifles off these actions. I know Wayne has worked on them and is up to the task of which mauiboi is asking. Jered Joplin of American Precision Arms (formerly Patriot Arms) has also built rifles for us using these actions. I know GAP rifles also used to build on them as well unsure if they still do.

If it was a factory round that came unglued and stuck the bolt then by all means send it to the mfr but that is a struggle in itself.

Hunta--I did read the post and it doesn't specify what type of load was fired when the incident happened.  What I was trying to say is that the bolt handles are either brazed on, like Remingtons, or it's one-piece.  Either way, if it shears off that would indicate defective/weak brazing or defective metal, in which case the manufacturer ought to make good on it, in my opinion, so I suggested that he send it back.

If Mauiboi wants to go through a third party, that fine--it's his rifle and his $$$.

It was a factory round s&b 250 grain match ammo. I bought the rifle from someone used. They claim they didn't shot any round through it. I looked on the sako website n says to go through a dealer. So for the USA it's berettausa. On their website says to go through a certified repair center that they have listed.  Some work on pistols or shotguns. Very few work on rifles. Bolsa gunsmith is the one for rifles. After reading done reviews I don't want to send it to them unless it's a last resort. After emailing n calling berettausa I haven't gotten an answer. So I'm looking for other options.

Jc,

those bolts arent neither they are threaded and screw in.

Maui,

Sorry to hear this happened with factory ammo.  Dealing with berettausa can be an issue. My cousin sent in a rifle once n took forever to get it back. So he nor we go that route.  If l had extra bolts I'd give you one  l will ask my cousin he may have.  Did you look on brownells?

Looks like speedtek is another option to check your barrel n chamber. Hope it works out for you bro!

Aloha

This has been an off and on project lol. When it first broke i was all gun ho to get it fixed. I literal only got one shot out of it but felt so smooth compared the the remingtons and savages ive shoot in 338. So i looked online emailed people and called bolsa. Read multiple bad reviews about bolsa so im trying to find other options. When i found a schematic on brownells with a parts list at the time the bolt was out of stock and costed 470 bucks. lol fml. i believe midwest gun works also sells parts. Thus ive put this project kinda on the back burner being that this year is election year and we dont know whats in store for us after the new president is elected. Im pretty sure bolt action rifles wont be mentioned. lol. So im trying to stock up on as much semis that i have on my wish list. Then after looking just now heres where im conflicted. Brownells says its a dia 13 bolt and works with a m995 and on mid west gun works they have it listed as dia 12.  Idk if im screwed and cant find a bolt now.

Mauiboi,

We've got a lot of 995 actions probly over 50 majority std n mag calibers. If no one has any bolts in stock lmk I'd be willing to give you a mag bolt and you can have someone open the boltface for you to fit your 338.

Hope u get all the semis you want lol

OK but this wouldn't be a direct replacement part then? A gunsmith would have to modify to adapt to 338.
