Why are we even considering banning rifles?

Statistics show you're more likely to be killed by a knife or edged weapon than by any rifle.

In fact you're more likely to be killed by
Knives
"Personal weapons"
Blunt objects
Shotguns

Than by any rifle.
http://sbcoalition.org/2011/04/gun-violence-and-the-census-sobering-statistics/

Why isn't anyone talking about this?

Lets dig a little deeper.

From 2000-2008 (9 year period)there were 3791 homicides committed by any rifle.

In 2008 alone, 616,828 people died from heart disease.
http://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/pdf/10lcd-age-grp-us-2008-a.pdf

There were 11,773 drunk driving deaths in 2008.
http://www.edgarsnyder.com/drunk-driving/drunk-driving-statistics.html

Preventable medical errors killed 98,000 people.
http://www.justice.org/cps/rde/justice/hs.xsl/8677.htm

In 2008 there were 1,280,000 abortions
http://www.numberofabortions.com/

There were over 118,000 accidental deaths in 2008
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/acc-inj.htm

So why is anyone talking about banning rifles?

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

They say "Assault" rifles are for killing people (whatevers)... So if bad "people" are shooting at me with assault rifles

Do I
A) Grab a bolt action rifle
B) Grab a knife
C) Grab a Bow & Arrow
D) Grab a collection of random stones that lay around me
When it comes down to it, stopping the threat is first priority....

I without a doubt, need my "Assault Rifle" more than ever now that theres so much idiots with guns.....

I believe as long as we call them "Assault Weapons" or Assault Rifles" we buy into their plans to try and ban/limit them. I believe we need to call them what they really are. In other words Semi Auto Rifles or Assault Weapon Lookalike or possibly Assault Style Weapon. We should maybe call them Civilian Legal Rifles instead of using the word "Assault". I think we are doing ourselves an injustice. We all know they are not what the media and the politicians are calling them. And to fight that stigma we need to call them by their real names. In this way when we discuss this subject around those not as knowledgeable as us we can distinguish ourselves as understanding the reality of this situation. And possibly explain the truth to those not as knowledgeable as us?

Thoughts?

I've been saying that all along and some of us (gun owners) believe these "assault weapons" exist. Shops refer to them as such. Knives, hammers more recently; have been used in assaults and why no "assault knives/hammers"?

Well said, Ren!!! While at the range today I over heard many people using these terms. Its almost as if we have become brainwashed into believing it ourselves.  :wtf:

Why are we even considering banning rifles?  Because most humans are hysterical, panicky sheep who lack the ability or desire to engage in critical thinking, that's why.
