Was planning on going to Wisconsin so I looked up their laws on firearms.  Guess what was at the top in BIG BOLD LETTERS..."YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS".

Thought that was pretty awesome.

CCW just passed in 2011 for WI.  They are a shall issue state and honor most other states CCW's.  The only thing you cannot do is consume alcohol and carry (open or concealed).

So seems like more states are turning into shall issue.  I wonder when Hawaii will follow.

I was reading through AZ laws, researching on the discussion of AZ CWP.  Their laws are awesome and glad to see the citizens of that state are well protected from criminal intention. 

Hawaii is disgustingly pro criminal. 

It's pretty simple.

Go to store, select gun you want
Fill out forms, show id, wait like 10 mins for the background check
Pay for gun and take it home or range, or even out in the forest/desert and shoot

CC permit
Fill out forms, send it mail
Wait a couple of weeks, take a class if required
Receive permit in mail, start carrying

Whenever I explain it to Hawaii people they're always shocked at how messed up Hawaii is.

In 12 states now (Maine joined the group last week) it's even simpler:

Buy or borrow gun from private party (immediate transfer, no government 'approval' required). Put it in a concealed or open holster. Walk around almost anywhere you want (no government "approval" required).

Note to hoplophobes and "blood in the streets" fear mongers: that hasn't happened anywhere, not even close.

I remember back in the old days buying a rifle was easy in HI.  Go to Honsport, King's sporting Goods, Wigwam, Penny's, Sears and some other places my dad and I didn't go to like Wahiawa Sporting Goods.  Could go shooting at Lake Wilson, junk yards, Kaena Point, Moi Hole etc., good times.  Then HI got weird.
The old HPD building at S. Beretania and Kalakaua (the old Sears Building) had lots of parking and IIRC two windows staffed by civilian ladies.  None of that "drama" feeling like when you go to the new HPD firearms room and worry about feeding the meter.   My FFL at the time always used to bring manapuas as barato for the wahines.

Bought my first two handguns in Oklahoma City in 1985/1986.

-  Shopped at the gun store & picked out my gun
-  Showed 2 forms of ID
-  Waited for the application to be approved via NICS (10-15 mins).  This was in the FAX/Pre-Internet Era!
-  Paid for the purchase.
-  Returned after the 3-day wait and picked up my new gun.
-  No trips to police/sheriff, no registration with the state, and no training courses required.

Firearms had to be unloaded during transport, and the ammo & guns had to be in different compartments (i.e. gun in trunk, ammo in back seat, or gun in a locked case out of reach of driver).

Thanks for the nostalgia.  When I was young, I was THAT KID who got lost in that Sears and they made an announcement for my parents to get me by the escalator.  Remember the sporting goods in the basement level and the building's sign stated Sears Roebuck, not just Sears.    Later on took my driving test there, starting out on the makai side of the building.   The hard part was to parallel park on that side and make that sharp right turn at Young and Piikoi St. all in a 60's Oldsmobile 88 and staying in the lane while turning.  No power steering, but at least automatic.   Better than the manual 3 speed column shift my dad had before.
In the late 80's the wife of Roland Kotani, the young rising star of the dems, shot herself in the HPD basement restroom while brought in for questioning for the murder of Kotani.  Believed she used some model S&W .357 mag. revolver.  Guess in those days, they didn't check for hidden guns.   Sad and gruesome story.

That is exactly how California used to be. Of course it is no longer like that.

I had a conversation with a new resident of a free state purchaser at the(very busy) LGS this weekend, it went like this: how long is the waiting period? Me: what waiting period? How long until I can buy another gun? Me: do you see anything else you want and how much $ you got? How long do I have to get these registered? Me: register with who? The government. Me: it's none of their business. How are they going to trace the gun? Me: why would they need to trace the gun and what difference would it make? As he walks out with 3 new guns, 2 holsters, 100's of rounds of ammo he says: I should've moved south years ago! Me: welcome to the USA, we're happy you're here, vote accordingly. Escape from NY is not just a movie!

PD: (chuckles) Noo.  You must be from CA? We did away with registration a few years ago.  In fact, many people tore up their blue cards.
Me: No Hawaii
PD: Just as bad
Me: What are you CCW procedures for applying
PD: Visit our website, but WE RECOMMEND ALL CITIZENS CARRYING TO PROTECT YOURSELF
Me: What is your policy on transporting ammo (point A to point B?) , I plan on buying some and bringing it home
PD: (Chuckles again) You can transport ammo anyway you want.  It's your right to do so.  Stop at Starbucks if you want or what ever.
