Good thing this topic came up.  One of mine need recharging.  States that any use requires recharging, didn't know that since I used it a skosh once.  If the recharge costs in the $30 range, will get a replacement at HD or Lowes instead.

I was thinking the same thing.
I think that a new one of the same size runs about 60 but to recharge it is about 30.

If I recall, last 2 I bought from Costco was on sale for $29.99, usually about $50-60.  Looks like your picture.

They seem to go on sale every few months,  If you can wait, that is.

The cheap ones often aren't rechargeable but pay a little more to get the rechargeable one from the company in Kalihi and you will get a little better quality and I think in the long run it will save money as the recharge was cheaper than the throw away ones, at least that is what i found out when I talked to a rep.

Went to Nat'l Fire Protection today to recharge my extinguisher, but the unit was long expired so couldn't recharge.  Last date they will recharge is 1992 as of today and mine was made in '83, LOL.   Anyhow,  bought a Ansul brand 5 lb. unit for $30, same price as recharge from them.   This unit is one of their loaners which is new but not boxed like a brand new one.  If your unit was made '92 and later they will recharge, but ask about buying one of their loaners.  Loaners are lent to customers while their own units are being recharged. 
They're located at 4355 Lawehana St. diagonally across from Target parking lot entrance.  If headed in town direction they're 2 buildings down from the Sleep Train.   In their lot, on the left is a rollup door where they do the servicing.   No longer at Kahai St., so plenty of parking.  Phone 848-8811.

My extinguishers from Costco are good quality, not "cheapos".  Brand is First Alert, and the instructions recommend recharging in specific instances, which indicates it is rechargable.  The contents were manufactured by ANSUL.  The year next to the UL symbol is 2012, so I guess that one is okay for awhile.
