Just to compare and contrast the real world with the fascist fantasy that is Hawaii... where every single law-abiding person of any age is considered a "prohibited person" re their right to bear arms.  >:(

It’s now legal to get a concealed weapons permit in Utah at age 18

Excerpt:

SALT LAKE CITY — It’s now legal for someone as young as 18 to obtain a concealed weapons permit.

Governor Gary Herbert signed House Bill 198, sponsored by Rep. Karianne Lisonbee, R-Clearfield, which lowers the age for someone to conceal carry a firearm from 21 to 18. Under the law, they are allowed to seek a provisional permit.

Supporters argued the bill would help protect college students from sexual assault on campus. Opponents said it put guns in the hands of people still too young to make responsible decisions [then why the f*ck do they accept them carrying full-auto weapons in the military?!!! Or even being IN the military?].

*****
Note that the sponsor of the bill is NOT an old fat white guy:

If at age 18, you can vote, get drafted, serve in the military, sign legal documents, and tried as an adult...why not?

You forgot an 18 year old in Utah can operate a weapon of mass destruction (automobile), and possess a firearm -- including handguns.

This law just adds concealed carry for those already legally allowed to possess guns.

I believe the philosophical rationalization and argument for denying some rights while allowing some privileges is along the lines of

1. 18-year-olds ARE mature enough to be responsible (military service, vote, motor vehicle operation, etc.),

AND

2. 18-year-olds ARE NOT mature enough to be responsible... because GUNZ!!!

Obvious, egregious logical contradictions (and the fact that there is no evidence to support their position even if it had some logical basis) are no impediments to statist tyrants who are determined to control the ignorant masses (for their own good, of course). Disarming the civilian population to the greatest degree possible simply aids and abets them achieving their goals in the quickest and most efficient manner possible.

14 states now have a version of "Constitutional"/permitless carry enacted, and half a dozen states still have bills active this session to enact the same. This does not help further the progressive statist agenda. They cannot be pleased. Extending the right to 18-year-olds is just another thorn in their sides.

Too bad there is no Progressive-Socialist-Liberal exception.

Those people should never be trusted with guns or public office.   :shake:

I was 17 when I went in the military.
What is stupid is that you are not responsible
enough to buy a beer till you are 21.

It didn't used to be that way.  My state limit for beer was 18 until they raised the age limit in the 80s.  I was lucky to be the legal age with each year they incrementally increased it.  Although, I was buying liquor before I was 21 with no ID because I looked older, especially when I grew a beard during Summer.

On domestic flights, they used the 21 year limit to avoid legal problems with 21-limit states.  If you were military, they let you buy beer or liquor aboard the plane if over 18.
