This guy is useless... He works at IT for a living but still gives all this privacy to his daughter with a laptop HE bought for her...and knows how CRAZY the internet can be.... :grrr:

Call me lame but my wife and I don't go on Facebook and Myspace....and we're ok so far..nobody has died from not going on Facebook

My son is 14yrs old and gets allowance for washing clothes... You supposed to teach them how to budget money... ::)

Our 2 computars are right smack in the middle of the living room where all 3 of my kids get supervised when they are on it...

My son has a cell phone that has nothing on there but calling out and recieving phone call features, thats it...

We all had it rough growing up, well at least I did, but it doesn't mean we apply the same "Caveman" principals we had to them, because we didn't have computars and cell phones in the home....

Some parents think that kids automatically know what they should do and shoulndn't....

If we don't raise our kids than Lady Gaga will... :shake:

It's a never ending process... The only door that's on the hinges in my sojourn, is the Master room and bathroom......Booyah... ;)

Shooting the laptop at the end was cool though... ::)

I don't know, it doesn't look like his daughter had that much privacy on the computer, since he found the post she made.  Hard to say, he may have just been giving her enough rope to hang herself, but at any rate, a teenager will get up to things you don't want them to; regardless of how closely supervised they may be.

No shit.

That was the 7 year old rite of passage in my house.

At 7, you were responsible to wash all your own clothes and dishes.

My son washes ALL the clothes.... Mine, my wifes and my 2 daughters....

Amongst all the other chores that I teach my kids, I need them to have the skills I didn't have when I left home....

SAVING and BUDGETING is still my biggest problem.... :(

Just raising them up the best possible way I can, with God's help of course...

I see all these elementary  kids all the way up to high shcool using iPhone's and every other fancy phone under the sun....

It's sad how we think that our kids need phone's so they can be our best friends and be safer with it.... :-\

Shit back in the dizal many, many, moons ago....... No I'm not that old I'm only 35 but anyways after my grand parents completely retired I would have to go to there house help in the garden, shovel rocks in to the wheel barrel, then go dump it pushing it up hill, then dig ditches all this while only being in elementary. I think I was 4th or 5th grade.  The other kids got to go surfing not me.
I never had brand name cloths, in fact my mom learned how to sew at a young age so while in elementary my mom sewed all our shorts. And yes i to know how to sew :/
But I used to bus my ass as a kid. I think the kid nowadays call it "Child abuse" I call it a "Character builder." I commend you banana teach your kids from young how to work hard and in the future they will be very grateful. I know I am.

There's a really good system/software for budgeting called ynab (you need a budget). Installs on a computer and has a mobile app for the IPhone included to allow expense tracking easily.  You can try YNAB for free for 34 days. Then it's $60 to purchase a license key.

Read about their method on their website. http://www.youneedabudget.com/

If you are interested in personal finance management, Mint.com is free. I'm not sure how it compared to you need a budget, but it gets very good reviews. Oh, did I mention it's free?

I used to use mint.com and before that Microsoft Money. One thing I didn't like about mint is that it only tracks credit cards and bank accounts, not cash. I needed something better that let me track cash expenditures and project future expenses several months forward... Hence, budgeting instead of only seeing what had already happened.

One thing I liked about YNAB is that it is self contained on your own computer and mobile device instead of being on Intuit's servers.

I tried out several other programs and liked the trial period enough that I decided to buy it for $60.  The budgeting approach was totally worth it, in my opinion.
