Every time there is some kind of event like the one last night, the wife gets into "training mode". She ask me what does she do and how to do it. The murder drilled more caution into her brain. She did think that I'm paranoid when I take the gun with me to the toilet and kitchen. But recent events, not only last night has made her more aware.
1) This can happen to anyone and anytime so be prepared. We don't know how they got in (kicked door in, snuck in, was already inside, etc...)
2) Why the gun is always in arms reach and not left far away. If someone kicks the door in, she wouldn't have time to run to where the gun is. (Small apartment)
3) Exercise your right to remain silent until you speak to an attorney (Have NRA Carry Guard card with you and follow instructions on card)
4) What to do if gun doesn't go bang. (Tap rack)
She is getting better at being ready. A few months ago, I was at the HDF range day and took all the guns with me. She called me saying there was a druggy in front of our place yelling at the air and pacing. She asked where are the guns, because the safe is empty. Told her it's with me. This scared her because she didn't have the best tool to defend herself if needed. Since then, I always leave 1 gun at home.
