Ive shot all sorts of 9mm and didnt notice 1 was dirtier over another, but all factory ammo.

For 223, wolf was super dirty. No flakes, but the rifle took 3x the time to clean. 50rds wolf aluminum was like 500rds brass for dirtyness. Had to scrub harder. But for 19 cents a round, i still would spend more on brass. To much hassle.

No FTF or FTE with all my types of ammo used on all platforms.

Never shot reloaded ammo before.

Was that mostly the BCG?

Everything.  But especially the BCG.  Firing pin was almost all black.  Had to even wipe down the lower a little bit.  With brass, I wipe the lower every few months, and it just dirt dust, not powder like Wolf.

The only part of the BCG that is difficult to clean for me is the bolt tail.  With a scraper, it gets "clean enough" quickly.  The inside of the BCG where the bolt rides also gets super dirty and I have a scraper for that too.  I used to be more thorough with my first AR, but nowadays, it's mostly "clean enough" level.  I'll do more thorough cleaning say every 5,000 rounds or so, but I haven't been shooting near as much as I used to.

Have you tried Fireclean?  That seems to make most upper parts pretty close to "clean enough" with a wipe with a microfiber rag (with exception of parts of the BCG mentioned above).  I've had good experience with Fireclean.  I've heard Froglube is pretty good for lube and making cleaning easier.

I haven't noticed my lowers getting that dirty depending on the ammo.  For one class, I shot a friend's suppressed SBR and that was pretty dirty, both the upper and the lower.

I stopped using wolf but was using Ballistol at the time. Now I'm using Breakthrough and noticed I don't have to scrub as hard, and it doesn't make the house smell like ass.

I've been making my own stuff lately including Ed's Red and lanolin/alcohol, Ballistol is still the best at preventing rust, in my experience. I also use small amounts of Lemishine and dishwashing soap in my ultrasonic cleaner to clean the dirty brass before resizing.

umc is a cheap dirty ammo.  i normally use it for 9mm.  it also sparks out the barrel and ejection port.  no big deal. lol

I've noticed that the 115 gr leaves the cases with black burn marks.  I guess since that's what I shot most when I started shooting my Glock 17, that was the baseline.  I have others note that the UMC was dirty and that they could see the sparks and stuff.  Yeah, I agree no big deal either way.  Just something that I noticed when I started shooting the Blazer Brass.  I have almost 3 cases of it on hand.

i always just chalked it up to being a dirtier, less refined powder.  it does leave more residue than better ammo, but in my semi pistols the dirtiness doesn't really matter, cause the barrel seems to take the majority of the residue, and pretty easy to take care of with a field strip.

I got some UMC and shot a case (yellow mega box 250rds).  I didn't notice my vp9 any dirtier than normal.  IDK how old the ammo was, I bought it from a friend.

It did have some glue on some of the brass, like 1 every 100rds.  Seems like they used to much glue when sealing the box.  Good thing I check every round before putting it in the mags.

Yeah, I assumed it was cheaper powder or something like that.  It's funny, because I would get a lot of comments when shooting IPSC.  Most noticed that I was shooting 115 gr based on the "sparks" and the dirty cases. Initially, I assumed they were asking as they wanted my spent casings since I shoot factory, so the casings are still prime.

I've shot the UMC Yellow box stuff for .38 SPL.  I assume they are the same, but the 9 mm that I've shot usually came in the white box with green.  Either that, or the 1000 round loose boxes.  I did noticed that the UMC Yellow .38 SPL is pretty dirty. Especially since my 686 is stainless, so everything shows.  I haven't noticed that it's difficult to remove, but a lot more dirty than some of the other .38 SPL factory ammo.  I should have shot more of dogman's reloads to compare.
