Have always been interested in Easter Island.  I also enjoyed the movie Rapa Nui.  While fiction, seems like they may have gotten most of the story on the Moai right, or at least close.

Experts have worked out how the ancient people of Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, were able to place massive stone hats on the island’s famous statues.

A team of researchers that includes experts from Binghamton University, State University at New York, worked out that the island’s inhabitants used a technique called “parbuckling” that uses ropes and a ramp.

"Of the many questions that surround the island's past, two tend to stand out: How did people of the past move such massive statues (moai) and how did they place such massive stone hats (pukao) on top of their heads?" said Carl Lipo, a professor of anthropology at Binghamton University, in a statement.

With limited resources at their disposal, archaeologists have wondered how the islanders were able to move the cylindrical pukao, which weigh 13.2 tons (12 metric tons), across long distances.

After taking photos of the pukao, 3-D modeling was used to reveal key details of the giant stone hats.

Experts found that pukao were most likely rolled from the quarry to the location of the moai, and rolled up large ramps using the parbuckling technique.

When ever I take a new poly to the gym (who never lifted b4), they get embarrassed that I out bench them.  But within 1 month, they're repping 315lbs and maybe even more.  I've been training for years and still haven't benched 315.  This happened with many poly's that I know.

So now I tell them, no be shame today.  By next month, you will be out benching me.

So if you factor in that natural poly strength, then you will understand how they got the statues there.

Awesome!  I didn't know about that.  I really like the Predator series too, especially the AvP series.  I didn't really care for the Colorado one, but loved the one in Antarctica and the jungle hunting preserve one. 

I have a couple of buddies who are really into the Alien series in a very nerdy way.  I mean I like the Alien series, including the prequels of Covenant and Prometheus, but it's funny how worked up they get when the subject of Alien vs Predator comes up.  I tease them because the Aliens lose in those movies.

I'm 50/50 when it comes to the AVP spin off.  Antarctica I liked.  Colorado sucked, and the one in the jungle would have been better if they had a better main character.  That guy is to "soft" in my opinion.  Felt like he was trying to be a tuff guy.  Either you're tough or not.  He did fit a good role in the Pianist.

I enjoyed the variety of characters in the jungle one.  The sort of badass from different parts of the world.  I really liked the Russian guy. 

They same friends that geek out on Alien, they went into this whole thing about the different Predator species and stuff.  Looked it up and there's this whole "history" of it all.  That these writers essentially create a whole other universe is amazing to me.  Movies like Avatar, LOTR, etc.  They create whole worlds and even new languages. . .

I wish they would do a Robocop vs. Terminator movie.
