Well there you have it.  Sound like most 2A members are in likelihood of being reported for doing perfectly legal and sensible things.

Of course, as a veteran, I have been on Napalitano's list for some time.  Never know when I might flip out..........

I also bought a thousand 77gr Sierra MatchKing bullets recently, so I guess I'll get in trouble for "buying components to make custom sniper ammunition" hahaha

Lord have mercy. Whats next. Ive been buying large amounts of ammo for almost 4 years(.Im just a bad shot.) I guess Im on "the list" but then again so is my retired FBI friend. Ha Ha Ha!!!

clerk asks me "can i help you?" when he saw me looking at the mailer
i said, "no thanks, just making sure i didn't miss any sales"
then he asks, "what is the fertilizer for?"
i asked him if he was worried i was a domestic terrorist
he said no, that he was only making sure i wasn't using all-purpose fertilizer on my lawn

That's just what he told you. He actually filed a report after you left and now you're on a list with the rest of us. Welcome to the club!

Not an unreasonable list of things to look for, really. Its just the FBI giving community businesses some things to look for if potential terrorists are stocking up on potentially dangerous materials. I've read up on this stuff over the years so I recognize the lists but your average store clerk might not know what to look for.

Less onerous than trying to buy decongestant allergy medicine these days: apparently it can be used to make meth so you can only buy so much at a time and you have to give them your DL number.

Here in Hawaii most of us avid gun owners actually aren't going to end up on any lists because of these kinds of business based FBI initiatives. Because the store owners know us and we're not behaving suspiciously. We're behaving like avid gun owners. 

As far as the list of "unusual" home improvement purchases... happens all the time here. Particularly before and during hurricane season. So unless you're buying a large quality of 1' long pipe with matching sets of caps and plugs nothing we pick up for your basic household emergency preparedness is going to warrant a second look. And if the store staff don't think your purchase is unusual then there is no report and you're not on any list.

At least not for that.

Ha! This just reminded me of a friend from college.

He was a masters degree student in Mathematics. Already had a cryptology contract with the Fed since he broke one of the military codes as a teenager. Not maliciously. He was just working on what he thought was a new set of theoretical numbers and recognized the pattern in a bit of encrypted data he came across.

He got a hold of the internet filter keyword list for the FBI and CIA. Internet packets fly around everywhere and the Fed has sniffers that look for keywords. Any message that has those key words is extracted and dumped into a database for further analysis and review.

He appended the entire list to every single email as his signature.

I have trouble believing what this page is suggesting. I saw several red flags (to me) on this page that suggests the writer doesn't know all that he leads his readers to believe on the aviation side of things.

Planes and drones don't track transponders. Period. Aircraft are required to have a transponder only when within 30 miles of the center of Class Bravo airspace (Honolulu International) or when within Class Charlie airspace (Kahului Airport). They broadcast a signal which AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL tracks. Some large aircraft have a warning system called TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) which DOES listen for transponder signals, but only to warn the crew if they're near another aircraft.

Having been in aviation for over six years, I don't know what he means by "staying on the beam". I've had to bracket NDB (Non-Directional Beacons) Bearings and track VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) Radials, but I've never had to "stay on (any) beam".

Furthermore, the method in which he describes the method of GPS working is incorrect. Satellites orbit the earth always remaining over the same position on earth, and are controlled by the USAF in Colorado Springs, CO. GPS works by sending and receiving signals from 3 or more satellites and timing the signals to determine a distance from each of them, then triangulating the distances and using the known positions to calculate a position on earth.

To conclude, shit happens to everyone, good AND bad. A plane crash could've killed the whistleblower. Of course there's going to be conspiracy theories. Big question is, why her, and why aren't bigger fish being targeted? I don't know what happened to her, but to have a conspiracy theory over her death is ridiculous.
