So we’re now open for tourism but some can’t even get an appointment to acquire even with the extended hours.  It’s worse if you need a birth certificate for your newborn because you’re going to have to wait 6 months.  Marriage licenses are backed up until March 2021!  Tourism > your newborn or getting married.      #priorities

The appointment system stays in place during COVID and it's very difficult to challenge it as all other city functions are by appointment or closed too.  We're looking at how it plays out in other States.  There are rumors of antigunners taking up appointments, not sure if it's true or gun people are just not showing up.  Other rumor is that the appointment system stays in place after COVID.  If that is true, then HPD would still have to be open one evening and take whomevers in line.  There is a big demand spike for guns now similar to the spike after Sandy Hook and the 5 hour line at HPD.  HPD has improved things by splitting up permitting and registration since then, but there would still be a long line without the appointment system.

The good part is it would give us justification for pushing a one year handgun permit next year, or defending against eliminating the one year long gun permit.  That combined with the emailed permits and eliminating physically bringing the gun in for registration would make things flow a lot better.

So when all the BS ends and IF the system goes back to how it was before, we can point directly to this past year as an argument for having the FFLs doing all background checks and registrations. We can also point to the complete lack of wild west type antics as hundreds, if not thousands of guns have been sold at the LGS and in private party sales since March without registering them due to the inability to get a registration appointment. This doesn't account for all of the out of state importations by the military families.

We can get real numbers in May 2021 when the report comes out from the AG to show the correlation. I do expect permit numbers to be down, but the real proof will be the lack of gun related crime in relation to firearms purchased/permits issued. Looks to me like the government made our point for us.

We already do the 4473 at point of purchase and the AG is doing the true background check. End the PD doing it and remove the medical check requirement. That and let the LGS make some extra $ on the deal. HPD charges $43.25 ONE TIME. I'd rather do $25 each transaction. Let the LGS keep $15 and HPD gets $10. Everybody wins and background checks are performed at every transaction eliminating that scary whole year between BG checks for a long gun permit. Do the same thing with private party transfers.

For registration... Again let the LGS do it.
I've got several of these and they were done at the LGS and they sent it on the METRO. Same should be done here. (this program was rescinded but I kept my cards for posterity)
