Since there's no ballgame in the vicinity, carrying a bat would equate to having intentions of using it as a weapon -- for self defense or not, doesn't matter.

I was raised thinking that God was always watching, and that I could never really do anything bad without a "witness".

With today's technology, that mindset has newfound benefits.
