More people have been arrested on the Big Island for quarantine violations than in the rest of the state combined.

The state of Hawai‘i released the following county-by-county arrest tallies Friday:

Hawai‘i County – 99
Kaua‘i County – 46
C&C of Honolulu – 21 (arrests made by Dept. of the Attorney General Special Investigators)
Maui County – 16

Surely the BI does not have more violaters than Oahu.  So why is enforcement so lax there?  LEO too busy with more important stuff?
Happily living in Puna

Don't know why we have such a negative sentiment towards tourists when looking at the epi curve nearly all infections are community spread. Even in the beginning of this event it was returning residents that spread the virus throughout the local community. Common sense. They obviously stay longer than a visitor. The household environment they stay in and the community contacts they have are what caused most of the infections.

On another note, a gas station attendant stopped me when I pulled out after filling up gas. I had taken off may mask in my car - where I was the sole occupant with all windows closed and he said,"What the hell are you doing?" I rolled down my window and said," driving out".

We are our own enemies.

I think the biggest factor was nobody really knew anything, and the people putting out the official information were using catastrophic projections from incomplete and inaccurate models.  Only now, after we lived through it, can a more reasoned analysis be obtained.

In fact, there are some hefty spikes in infection numbers happening in areas that have opened up their businesses, in spite of continued hand washing, social distancing and masks.  The infection rates are going back up even with the higher temperatures around the nation.  The increases are not consistent, though.  Some areas have been returning to normal without seeing these spikes.  So, were those areas already infected with the asymptomatic strain at a broader rate, and are now immune?  Do they have lifestyles that help avoid infection?  Do they all use a better soap?  Who knows...

Hawaii can control its visitor population much better than every other state.  It makes at least some sense to take advantage of that if the goal is to prevent preventable infections and deaths.

Until there's a working vaccine, there's not going to be an "optimal" solution.   We still don't know what we don't know.

Apparently this virus situation has created a new class of citizens who are quick to enforce all mandates.
I think the reason why we see more cases in the sun belt states is that with the hotter weather, more people are inclined to stay in closed, climate controlled environment where the virus can circulate.
The widely referenced IHME model and the tracking website at Johns Hopkins induced a lot of fear and anxiety, most of which we still cling on despite a more positive recovery rate. In Hawaii, the test positive rate is slight above 1% and over 90% of people affected by the virus recover.

Apparently there are people who believe that there are "classes" in the country based on opinions.  I always thought classes were based more on demographics, like ethnicity, annual income, age, and so on.  Now I guess admitting we don't have all the answers is some defined "class"?

People change their opinions based on facts for the most part.  None of the facts support one "class" or another.

A few months time is hardly long enough to understand a new norovirus that created a reaction around the world no one alive has ever experienced before.

It's nice that there is a "class" in Hawaii that knows everything about COVID-19.  Maybe they can share the basis of that knowledge with those who opt to follow recommendations from the state & federal gov'ts?

It's always easier for one to condemn the opinions and actions of others when the responsibility for everyone's safety is not on ones shoulders.

Novel Coronavirus.

Good example of how people who aren't experts (as I am not) should not be pushing their "layman's" opinions as public policy.

Perhaps I used the wrong term of "classes". I meant in general terms, groups of people. The Karens and the male personifications.
There are some people who stand firmly behind these authoritarian mandates wherever you are. Whether you are outdoors where there are no others within 6 feet and whether you are in your own private spaces i.e. a car. Both of what I experienced this weekend. For example, when I got into my car after filling up gas the attendant stopped me and asked, "What the hell I was doing?"

I don't find this corona virus novel at all. Let's just call it the China virus. Why? Because it came from China. Specifically the Wuhan virus. The Kung Flu. Waiting for a WuTang song to drop.

I'm predicting that this China virus will cancel Valentines 2021 - especially if Biden wins...he'll probably call it Mother's Day.

The BI has more Ohana working in the government.
They don't have anything else to do but screw with
YOU!
BI is small town and most things work off who you know.
You can't do much without somebody knowing about it.
Which means everybody knows about it.
Tourists that cheat don't stand a chance,
unless they know someone.
Even then everybody knows about it.
My wife was complaining about the number of Tourist
rental cars in a local town.
I told her they are probably Mauna Lani
resort members/owners or other neighbors
for example.
The very rich.
They aren't sick with the flu.
These are the guys that fly in on private jets.
and don't fill out the silly forms us
common people have to.

Govt can also tell you not to sleep in the same bed as your wife.

50. On or about July 10, 2020, Richard Partal received a telephone call from Mayor Kim’s civil defense office and was told that due to the report of him having been in the common area of the Town Home, his quarantine exemption was revoked and he too was subject to quarantine with his wife, mother and son; that they had to social distance inside of the Town Home; and that consequently he and his wife, Kristine Partal, were not permitted to share a bed during the quarantine.

This is the island utopia we all wanted. Govt to tell us when, where and how to do things. The same govt. that screwed up the rail project, the sewers and other infrastructure that they apparently can't effectively manage.
