The Prosecutor Office could have just refused to Prosecute.  The judge could have thrown the case out.  Ige could have stepped in.  The cop could or rather should have just given a warning but decide to be an asshole.  I agree this shows the nation how screwed up the powers that be are in Hawaii.  Make ass.

that is pure bullshit.  If Chief Ballard (off duty) was going 50 mph in the 35 mph speed trap zone where you get off the H# and head to the airport, you know, the area where NO ONE goes 35 mph, and got pulled over, do you think she would get a ticket?  Or for that matter, any of the Asst Chiefs, Majors or even the cop's duty sargent.  When I was 18 years old, young and foolish, I and a few others, all under drinking age were drinking the cruising around late at night.  A cop pulled us over and asked the driver for his license.  He looked at the license and the name on it is was ______ Jr.  So he asks, "Is Sargent ______ your father?  The driver says yes.  He told us to put the beer and coolers in the trunk and go home and if he  caught us later that night he would have to arrest us.  Now I ask you, If the driver was an ordinary citizen, would the cop have reacted the same way?  The saying goes, "It is not what you know, but who you know."  I like to expand that a little by saying it is who you know that likes you.  Because if who you know hates your guts, that is not going to help.

My friend was caught DUI. Same thing, the cop asked if ________ was any relation.  He said it's his brother.   Cop said drive slowly and I'll follow behind you until you're home.  My friend begged the cop to take him to jail instead and not tell his brother.  Cop refused.  At the crack of dawn, there was a loud banging on his front door.  It was his brother and he was giving him hell for making him look bad.  They didn't speak for a few months after that.
