1911 in 9mm

Aloha,
I just ordered a Rock Island Armory 1911 in 9mm.  ;D

Anyone else on Oahu shooting a 1911 in 9mm?
The prevailing wisdom says try a bunch of different manufacturer's magazines to find the one that works best with my particular 1911. Then go buy a bunch.

So:
  • Any recommendations on magazines?
  • Anyone have 1911 9mm magazines they'd consider loaning me once I get my pistol so I can try them out?

My RIA 1911 is in .45, and it's a fantastic gun.  Not had a single problem with any manufacturer's magazine that I've tried.  I would love to shoot yours in 9mm, though.  Meet you at the range once it comes in?

I have the ria gi 9mm. Love it. I have a few mags from different manufacturers and all work fine.  I'll look at what brands they are tonight and let you know.

At the Shooting Sports Fair this year I shot a Kimber 1911 in 9mm and I like it enough to consider buying one. Unfortunately the money is not coming my way these days so it will be a while. But I can't forget how it felt in my hands while I was shooting it. I am not a 1911 fan but this gun fit perfect. So I will be looking at a Kimber in my future.

I've had great results with Wilson mags in 45.  My buddy runs them in his 9mm still and swears by them.  Not cheap but well made, durable, and reliable.  Perhaps not worth the price for a range-plinking gun but that would depend on the owner.

Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat.  Chips are cheaper.

Do not get Ed Brown mags.  The shell is too thin to stand up to a minor beating like the Chip or Wilsons.

Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat are the ones to go with, general consensus on the 1911 forums.

I have a Springfield Armory USA made in the 90's. Its a comp gun built by Ed Masaki. I use Springfield Mags. They drop fast and easy and are not expensive.

Just looked at my mags and they are metalform, mec-gar, and checkmate.  Back when I received my ria 9mm I ordered these mags to see which would work best.  Luckily, I've had no issues with any of them.  If you buy from midway or brownells, you could always return the bad ones.

Mahalo for all the replies!  :shaka:

My gun shipped today, so hopefully I'll be out shooting it by early September.  8)
