Hungarian SVD fiasco.

Anybody keeping up with the FEG SVD dumpster fire?
Long story short,  Some guy with alleged ties to the new owners of FEG out of Hungaria, garnered support and helped with the design implementation  and import legwork with the help of some die-hard AK fanboy collectors.  A (now known to be unofficial) list of about 400 people on theakforum waited for over two years, visiting the forums almost daily fantasizing over their dream guns and how awsome the whole situation was. Now flash foward to yesterday ...

The GB auction by yesturday EOD.
https://www.gunbroker.com/All/search?Keywords=Feg%20hd-18

Lessons learned:
1. a list of  random people (with no money down) on a forum means sh!t to weapon importers.
2. Dont piss off the Ak "Slav-boog" fan-boy types.

I have NO dog in this fight, I feel bad for the people on the list, at the end of the process the origional party did not have the capitol and Tim from MAC swooped in and scooped up the rifles. I would cut him some more slack if not for the video he had posted recently flaming gun-broker price gougers.
All in all the multiple threads on arfcom, theakforum and akfiles are a good read if you want to watch the progression of extreme jubilation and excitment to Internet  SHTF reeeeeeing in matter of hours.

CRS had a good video about it.

Comes down to if there was something in writing and deposits were made by the 100 people on the AK forums.  Which at this point it doesn't look like it, not even a list of their real names, just their user names who expressed interest.

But even if the above did happen, is it really MAC's responsability?  The distributor could have just told MAC that they need the cash to bring in the rifles, which he/the FFL had.  So it's on the distributor and not MAC.  Which leads me to believe that there was nothing in writing or a deposit from the 100 forum users.

The Yankee Marshal did a "preliminary" video to give the details as they were known at the time due to his chat questions.

He later did a follow-up video with more information in which MAC overtly admitted what he did albeit in a way to try and spin it as if he did nothing wrong.

TYM might not hold the same opinions as the majority of 2A and gun supporters, but at least he withheld judgement in this case until MAC had a chance to respond.

His conclusion:  MAC is a low-life profiteer who used his money and notoriety to swoop in and buy the SVDs after another group spent years getting them produced and imported.  He didn't offer the rifles to the people responsible for them being produced.  Instead, he put them all on Gunbroker.com to maximize his profit, and then told the people who should have received them to go on Gunbroker and place a bid if they wanted one.

If you want to see the true strength of an individual, take away everything they have.  If you want to see the true character of a person give them money and power.

Is he only posting behind a paywall?  I guess that's another way to make money off this deal.

This story is similar to the Black Horse Arsenal scam a few years ago. People paid money upfront for PSL rifles and SVD parts. Many people did not get their orders filled and had to fight to get their money back.
