Cooking magazine for all you hunters
« on: April 05, 2010, 09:30:16 AM »
I just saw that Cooking Wild is going to be coming out this Spring as a quarterly. There is a free trial available on their site, but beware, it is the "pay now and cancel for a refund" type of trial.

This is what they say their magazine is:
Quote
Cooking Wild was created to bridge the gap from the field to the table. Each issue will cover all things important to the food-focused outdoors person — hunters, anglers and foragers alike. Cooking Wild is loaded with tips and techniques from experts who will help improve and expand your wild cooking arsenal.

Interesting.  Maybe one of you hunters could shed some light, what is there locally to hunt and eat other than boars and chickens?

On the outer islands, there are various sheep and deer too, but most of it is by lottery. On Oahu, we only have feral pig and feral goat. The DLNR website has a summary for mammal hunting.

The site doesn't say anything about chickens which is usually a bad sign. Maybe killing chickens will get you the same punishment as the woman who killed the peacocks.

I never did come across a feral goat while hunting here on Oahu, you must be thinking of Big Island, or those kangaroos in Kalihi (can't hunt 'em tho). As far as chickens go, as long as you don't kill someones prized rooster you shouldn't have a problem, in fact, out here in the country most people would give you chickens if you asked for them. You could also catch wild ones live too. I personally enjoy wild chicken, also mountain dove is good too!!

LoL at that dumb lady, she beat the peacock with a bat, in front of an apartment complex, with many witnesses...definitely not smart....easier and quieter ways of taking peacock.

Lots of goats in the waianae mountain range.  My uncle would buy them from hunters all the time.
