Danger Close Tactical
« on: April 25, 2022, 09:38:07 AM »
Went to visit the shop under it's new owner for the 1st time.

They renovated/expanded.  So it's not just the counter like before.  Selection also expanded.  He's a dealer for DFNDR body armor and has the plates in stock and carrier.  Soon to sell Tasers that don't require a $200; 4hr class.

Also he does slide milling for RDS, unsure which pistols though and it it's outsourced or done in house.  His IG mentions Glocks only.  But he knows I don't own a Glock.

Also he's an authorized dealer for Shadow Systems.  Which is the next pistol once I make the RDS commitment.

Hours of operation are 4pm-8pm; 7 days a week.  Parking is street parking.  We parked in front the church.

Most important, David is 1 of the plaintiffs on the Yukutake vs. Connors (Shikada) lawsuit.  He is part of the reason why  you can register your guns online and can have your permit to acquire emailed to you and extended hours on Wednesdays.  I read the lawsuit and it's not just about violating the 2a, there needs to be the right person for it.  So for his prior day job, he was on call 24/7 and might not be able to make the 3 trips to HPD.  So having an online option or not having to bring the gun in was a much better option.

*Edit

I forgot to mention that when I purchased a pistol via Gun Broker, I was able to click on his FFL which makes the process very fast and easy.  I did a GB search within 25 miles of my location and he was the only FFL that popped up.  I would do a courtesy call  first though to get approval to send him something instead of just doing it and leaving him in the dark.

Awesome guy.  Need more like him, especially in the already lean 2a community in Hawaii.  As well as when we are going to be losing some folks that have been very active in the political and practical sides of 2a things.

David is an excellent shooter.  If you want to see, you'll likely see him in the action bays any given weekend.  He also readily shares the knowledge and experience he's gained over the years, much on his own dime and sweat equity.

Can only hope that his business thrives, and support from folks on here, like CMO, will hopefully help.

Have yet to meet David but I have dealt with Dwayne in the past. I would love to support a dealer that actually does stuff for the 2a community. Looking forward to dealing with David in the future!!

Lol!!! I want to say that just about any other store (e.g. iwilei costco, all post offices in town, etc.) That's in town have crap parking. Its all about location. Sure, if theres a gun store in kapolei or ewa the parking may be much better but how many people would go there vs townside? When windward gun shop was in Hawaii kai, their parking was stellar. And it was on the way to kokohead. But rent was prob rising so they moved. I'm sure sand island rent may be cheaper cause its an industrial area. And the foot traffic is better for days when the range isnt open.

It will always be about location and cost of renting/leasing/ or owning the property.

Firearms International (near Bestbuy and Other Realms) has plenty of parking nearby. Order online and set up an appointment for pickup. Home Depot is a short walk from the store. HD and Lowes are the stores where I get drivers and electric tools. Gun stores like Kit n Gun, OGC Tactical, WGS, are under 10 minutes drive away.

In other states, you have to drive 30 miles to find the next store.

Since Firearms International has lots of parking, there is no need to park at Home Depot or Lowes.

Why do Firearms International advertise curbside pick-up if they have plenty parking?

Can't one just park and go inside the store?  Best for both worlds since the customer might buy something else while in the store and the employees don't have to go outside to deliver the orders.

Just wondering.  Never ordered from them.  Yet.

Back when you buy ammo in bulk, closer(ish) parking was a must.  Carrying say 2-4 cases of 9 mm, 5.56, etc to parking 10 mins away would be interesting.  Luckily, don't have to worry about that in the current ammo situation.   :(

They advertised this during covid. At their old location near Ward, you would park in the front of the building and the order would come to you.  Since then they now are on Nimitz and guess they kept the same practice?

I bought ammo a couple times from firearms international.  I liked the curbside pickup. Marko came down quickly.  I didn't have to get out of my car.  quick and easy transaction

I see.  Never thought of that.  Seems like Firearms International is really service orientated.  The reviews are all 100% positive. :shaka:

Also did the 4473 on a computer at his store.  This was way easier than writing it.
