Can I legally build an AR pistol from a stripped lower receiver? (Read 1720 times)

Onenuttkapolei

I apologize in advance if this the wrong place to ask this question.  Is it legal for me to build an AR pistol from a stripped lower receiver?  The receiver is registered but has never been built.  I have read that anything with a less then 16 inch long barrel that has an arm brace on the tube instead of a butt stock is an AR pistol.  Is that correct?  And, if it is, can I build it that way legally?  I asked at HPD when I went to register a gun on Friday and I was told it can be built but just not by me.  Is that the case?  I already built out the lower receiver without a butt stock and I can certainly order a complete upper that is less then 16 inches long.  Can I do it?  Thanks for your input.

Not to sure on the specifics but ar pistols aren’t legal here. Yeah they’ll ship it to you, but no way they’ll let you on the range so ya don’t really have anywhere to shoot it.

The stripped lower had to be originally registered by HPD as a pistol. There are other requirements but I type too slow.

Unless the rules have changed, which I highly doubt, you need to weld a 10 round mag onto the lower. Like grab some sheet metal and wrap it around the Maxwell and mag so it may never be removed. Since its a pistol then 10 rounds is max. Bs I know.

Good luck tho. And let us know how it works out.

Fwiw I asked HPD bout AOW shotties. Specifically the tac 14 and shockwave when it first became popular and last year. I got the same answer... Nope. Lol. Even though its "legal" as defined by atf AOW... Hawaii has its own rules that idk... Is bs. But whatever it does save me money.
