My wife likes jook also and I'm beginning to have a taste for it also.

Found this part of the paper lying around the house. It's about 9 years old, if you have a star advertiser log in you can see the whole article online.

When my kids got covid I made jook to help them to recover.
I just use leftover rice and whatever is in the fridge. Chicken, onion, celery.
Today I used really fresh ginger root and green onions that I dug up from the yard.
Other ingredients include a Portuguese spice blend that I make from an old recipe from my mom.
Garlic, Hawaiian salt, pepper, Japanese dashi.
The ginger and green onion has medicinal qualities.
I tested positive a  couple of days ago so this batch is part of the recovery strategy.

Bam !
That’s it.
Chicken or Turkey broth boiled down. (If using leftovers and bones/carcass)
Left over rice.
Ginger, garlic, Hawaiian salt. Chopped green onion and maybe chopped daikon condiments. (Sprinkle condiments on top and mix in)
Good addition is pork hash without wrapper.
Comfort food !

Jook is one of those comfort foods where it's not an exact science and winging it is pretty much the way to do it.  Whatever is in the fridge.

But it's great when people share how they do it.  Making jook is a humbling and gratifying endeavor.

It's been known to lift the spirits of even the most down-trodden.

You gotta figure that the story about Jewish moms making chicken soup when the kids get sick has to be rooted in some truth.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

I helped all my kids get over the covid by making either jook or portuguese soup when they got sick during the last couple of years.
It's what a good parent does for their kids.
