SIG P320 X-5
« on: October 18, 2022, 09:45:33 AM »

Seems like it's a non-modified gun too.

If you don't watch the vid:

1) He was doing a match
2) Gun was holstered and as he went to raise his hands over his head (starting position), the gun fired
3) Shirt was tucked in, nothing in the holster to cause the trigger to move
4) His EDC folding knife took the force of the bullet
5) Slight bruising, no hole
6) Sent gun to SIG and they said defective spring thingy
7) He didn't want the same gun back, he got another SIG replacement instead
8) He's glad he wasn't AIWB
9) Gun is post drop safe modification (2019 model)
10) No mention of any modifications done it it, but it sounds like it's factory original
11) Bladetech holster used OWB

just from the cover pic for the YT video, looks like his folds of his shirt right at the waist band could easily get caught in between the holster and the firearm as it's being holstered.  especially if the shirt is made of modern stretchy fabric.

SIG said it was a broken spring.

SIG said it was a broken spring.
SIG might have to resort to NASA-level space-certified inspection standards for the spring thingy, if it has this kinds of consequences.

SIG said it was a broken spring.

Anyone have insight regarding how this can cause the firing pin to activate the primer with a fuctioning striker disconnect present?

might be in this 21 minute-long video, which is referenced in the P320 forum on SIGtalk.com.

Was wondering the same thing.  Off to check my striker reset springs…

That is why I carry a Glock. Goes bang when you want it to, doesn't when you don't want it to. Reliability and dependability.

All of these events concerning SIG handguns are a bit concerning.

With that being said, I noticed that on the video the OP shared, the guy's pants are ripped due to the discharge of the pistol while in the holster.

Anybody else curious like me as to why there are no powder burns from the muzzle blast in that area?

Or maybe it's there and I just can't see it from the video.  I would figure a 9mm would produce a pretty big burn mark.

Looks like a large powder stain where his knife is.  And there are obvious smudges above the rip.

Been looking into this more lately. This video on the safety mechanism, how it works, and how fine line it is to disengaging was interesting.

An interesting breakdown of the P320 operation and how the parts work together. Not directly on the subject of “un-directed” discharge, but pretty interesting on the operation.

Damn, didn't even notice that I wrote concerning twice, concerning the fact that SIG handgun incidents have been the concern on the internet lately.

I'm concerned that the fact that I didn't fact check this fact brings a lot of concern that possibly I might be suffering from other issues of concern.

I'm quite concerned.

And that's a fact...... :D

Sounds like the fact of the matter is you are concerned with finding facts in this case instead of relying on opinions on concerns, and maybe the facts are getting blurred and unrelated concerns creeping in.

[\joking]

From what I read, the P365 series design and function is not like what is mentioned for the P320s, but haven't seen a breakdown on the function.  That said, I've seen more videos on the P365 Spectre and quite interested.

I think because the only major issue the P365 had was the primer drag, which has since been fixed.  This is a much smaller issue than a drop safe issue that the P320 had.  Hence the VP9 mallet test.

The Spectre does peak my interest.  Just cause it's tacticool and I don't think the comp will be noticeable for someone of my skill level. So pay extra for tacticool.

On a side note, I'm really liking the look and feel of Mrs. CMO's P365 XL vs. the Shield Plus.

I shoot my P320 really well, but I want to do more testing/shooting.  I was planning on shooting it in a pistol match the weekend the range shutdown, but was no go. . .  :(

Get a Spectre or a Macro.  Do it!
