Wasting taxpayer money and there's no excuse. Already a precedent in the contrary to the proposed bill.

It's all being struck down already in NY as unconstitutional. But as always, Hawaii gotta be difficult and hold out and screw us all as long as possible.

Ainokea either.   Eh, they get 8, sometimes 10 per shift to patrol all of Puna, an area about the size of Oahu. Bet the criminals on Oahu would be happy if only had 10 cops to patrol the whole island.

Yeah, Hawaii knows they can act like the banana republic that they are because the mainland don't give a rat's ass for Hawaii as a State of the Union.

They only think of us as a place to strategically place their military might.  Hell, that's the only reason they wanted Hawaii as a territory and eventually a State.

Reading that proposed Bill it would be easier if they told us WHERE we can carry instead of where we cannot carry.

So many places they prohibit it's laughable.  The only places it seems we can carry is at Auntie Tutu's 100th Birthday party at cousin's Augie's house in Palolo.

Notice how they're making you choose between your 1st amendment or your 2nd amendment.

"First Amendment expressive activities: within a distance of 100 feet of the outer
edge of any group of 25 or more people, in a public place as that term is defined
in Section 29-1 1, engaged in expressive activities involving speech or conduct,
the principal object of which is the expression, dissemination, or communication
by verbal, visual, literary, or auditory means of political, religious, philosophical,
or ideological opinions, views, or ideas."

Similar in my neck of the woods.  Something like 1 cop per thousand people on shift at any time,
in the Hamakua district. Virtuall any contact they make there needs to be two cops.
so between, speed traps, DUI patrols, car accidents, Traffic control in road work areas,
I don't think they'll have a lot of time to check that bulge on your hip.

Precedence:

Judge issues preliminary injunction holding
most of NY gun carry law is unconstitutional

Quote
A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on New York's latest gun carry law enacted
in response to the Supreme Court ruling striking down its previous law, holding that most
of its provisions are unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Glenn Suddaby ruled to pause enforcement on most parts of the Empire
State's Concealed Carry Improvement Act, including measures that required people applying
for a gun license to submit proof of "good moral character" and provide a list of social media
accounts and family contact information.

Additionally, the ruling strikes the limits the law instated for "sensitive" locations, which
previously made areas such as Times Square a gun-free zone even for licensed firearm
carriers.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/judge-issues-preliminary-injunction-holding-most-of-ny-gun-carry-law-is-unconstitutional/ar-AA13T6BV

One of the most ridiculous examples of overreach was making the subway system a "sensitive place" using the rationale that, since you can't carry in schools (actual sensitive place), and many students and staff use the subway to commute, the subway is a sensitive place "by extension."  So, with that rationale, any place where students, hospital workers, government employees, or anyone else who spends their day in a sensitive place happens to be magically becomes a sensitive place.

Might as well change them to "sensitive persons" laws, since the designation seems to follow the person rather than the place.

Anyway, I'm sure the appeals may flip this again, but for now, HI lawmakers should be taking these rulings into consideration when trying to copy NY's tyrannical governor.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

So Civil beat mentions the hearing is on 11/29.  I called my current rep and it's not on their agenda yet.

Also I asked who do I talk to since my current rep's term is done and the new guy takes over in Jan 1st.  She said if Nov 29th is the hearing, then it will carry over into Jan 2023, so talk to the new guy.

Bill 57 is coming up again, here's the timeline for it.

Feb 7 1pm Executive & Legal Affairs Committee (original bill)
Feb 22 10am City Council 2nd reading vote
Feb 28 1pm Executive & Legal Affairs Committee (discuss amendments)
March 15 10am City Council possible final vote

Executive/legal affairs chair Dos Santos Tam seems to have some doubts about the bill and is open to hearing our side.  Feb 7 is the big day where we want everyone to come down to Honolulu Hale and testify, or submit written or zoom testimony if you can't make it.  It's a light schedule and Bill 57 is the main event.  Expect the hearing to take a few hours due to the amount of in-person testimony being given.

The agenda is not out for the Feb 7th hearing.  It should be out in a couple days and you can submit your written testimony or testimony requests at that time.

Testimony needed for Bill 57 on 2-7-23 1pm at Honolulu Hale, virtual, or written.  This is the big day and we want everyone to come out and testify if possible.  We have a good chance of stopping this sensitive places bill for Honolulu so we need the show of support.
