Social Security is demanding that you pay them back for payments that THEY feel you are not entitled to, even if
the error was their fault. This is a real problem for many Americcans who were over paid, according to the SSA.
A few years ago I got a disturbing letter from the SSA.They claimed that I was over paid and that I needed to repay
them NOW or they would immediately with hold my social security until the amount in question $10k was repaid.
I informed the local SSA official that I was NOT over paid and I pointed out according to page 2 of the current social
security rules manual how I was right and that my former employer can verify my employment and all payments made
to SSA. The official refused to contact my former employer and worse yet did not return any phone calls or correspondence,
emails, or faxes made by myself or my former employer .
When I finally managed to get a hold of the same official and told her that I have all the documentation from my former
employer to prove my case, she told me that was not good enough and that she would have to re-verify all the documentation
I sent to SSA, with my former employer but only AFTER SSA receives my documentation thru the postal mail. I later found
out that the only reason I managed to get a hold of her was that it was her turn to handle the phone calls. I was dealing with
a bloody clerk ( jerk ).
6 months later I got a letter from Social Security that stated: I owe them nothing. If any of you get a notification from the SSA,and they
claim that you owe them money, but you know you do not, FIGHT IT. No one at SSA will fight for you. YOYO.
