where to buy federal bulk .22lr ammo?
« on: December 16, 2012, 07:37:55 PM »
i was wondering if they sell federal bulk .22lr ammo locally or is it just a Walmart thing?  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Federal-Ammunition-22LR-36gr-Copper-Plated-550ct/17128628
seems like the Hawaii Walmart doesn't sell it.

thanks.

Walmart does not sell  guns or ammo here. If you want Federal Bulk Ammo I found that Young Guns carries it and puts it on sale somewhat irregularly if you can wait for a sale. If not they probably have the best regular price that I know of. I would also check with OGC but I don't recall them selling Federal bulk .22. If you can go with another brand then check out OGC, X-Ring, Young Guns and SEC.
SCIENCE THAT CAN’T BE QUESTIONED IS PROPAGANDA!!!

i've also seen federal at KGS, but he gets differnt brands all the time, so he may or may not have it.

thanks guys for the info.

only reason why i am looking for federal bulk specifically is that according to the S&W forum it seems the M&P 15-22 generally does well with it...  plus it is cheap.

i am new to .22's and i was surprised how expensive the CCI mini mags were.

i will check out young guns.

nice, a 15-22.

.22 is so cheap though, i'd say buy a small amount of the winchester and try it out.  5-10 bucks of .22 wouldnt be too bad to test it out on.

at least for me, in my father's lever action .22, the winchester cycles better than the CCI mini mags we had.  apples to oranges comparison, especially since I've never tried federal, but every gun is different.

yeah, that is what i heard...  every .22 gun is different as to what ammo works.  i do plan on experimenting a bit with small amounts of different ammo and find what works.  just that in general, a high percentage of people on the S&W forum seemed to have problems with winchester for the 15-22.

We shot federal, cci, American eagle, and blazers with no problem out of the m&p 15-22. I think the cheaper the better, except for Winchester.
My friend has one and I was going to pick one up but went with the ati omni 22 instead.

Security usually has the 500 rnd boxes of Fed .22 ammo in stock unless they've had it on sale recently.  Like was posted above, Blazer and AE also work great.  No problems with any of the Fed, Blazer or AE bulk .22 ammo through my son's 15-22.  What we've found though, is that it is important that the rounds are staggered correctly in the magazine to avoid feed problems.  It is possible to rush when loading the mags and get rounds stacked instead of staggered.  My son used to sometimes get in a hurry when loading mags after resetting targets on the silhouette side so that he would  still have some knock down targets to shoot at.  Other than that, no problems, its a really fun gun.
