HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state is planning to pay mainland lawyers more than $3 million to defend against a lawsuit over climate change filed for local children.

The Attorney General says it needs the outside lawyers’ help, but a former state Supreme Court justice who supports the litigation, says it’s a waste of money.

Fourteen young people sued the state last year with the help of local and national environmental lawyers. The state hired a mainland law firm called Morgan Lewis and Bockius and has asked the legislature for $3.25 million to pay their fees.

Retired Associate Supreme Court Justice Michael Wilson, who is dedicating his time to environmental causes, says the expensive legal help isn’t necessary.

I find it amusing in an extreme amount.

Blue states are the ones pushing for climate change policies, so a blue state being sue over failure to do more about stopping climate change is just perfect.
