I assume it’s like many other parts...okay to have but illegal to install.  Personally I’d like to buy a Flux MP17 brace kit.

It is like having a vertical fore grip as long as it isn't installed on a pistol. The kit is just an accessory, X-ring probably has the barrel somewhere in the store too.

CAA doesn't make one with a 16" barrel so there's that.   Have you been on the CAA site and looked at the different models?  OP - If it's there and you like it, just get it.   

The rig itself is legal. Once you put your handgun inside, I BELIEVE it's considered an assault pistol .. I may be wrong but according to Hawaii laws,

"Assault pistol" means a semiautomatic pistol that accepts a detachable magazine and has two or more of the following characteristics:

     (1)  An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

     (2)  A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward hand grip, or silencer;

     (3)  A shroud that is attached to or partially or completely encircles the barrel and permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the second hand without being burned;

     (4)  A manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded;

     (5)  A centerfire pistol with an overall length of twelve inches or more; or

     (6)  It is a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm;

I would say numbers 1, 3, possibly 4, and 5 would apply. It also doesnt have a buttstock to be considered an SBR. Just my $0.02. If a anybody can shine light on this then by all means 🤙

The law says "manufactured weight" is 50 oz or less while loaded. I would assume this does not include accessories as you don't include red dot, laser, or flashlight weight when registering, and you surely not manufacturing when attaching.  Even the front "shroud" neither attaches to the barrel or encircles the barrel, it encircles the slide. I mean the slide technically encircles the barrel. 🤣. Without the brace the mck length is 13.7 so it hits that one for sure. You would also have to disable the feature to add an extra magazine and not have a threaded barrel. (I am not a lawyer, but I wish you did not have to be to follow the law.)
