It's a fact that motorcycle helmets save lives.  There's no controversy over the effectiveness of helmets,  The only controversy is over the government mandating helmet use.

Hard hats worn in industrial and construction sites, bicycle helmets, football helmets .... protecting the brain is common sense.

A helmet for both rider and passenger was mandatory in NC, OK and VA, as well as while on all military bases. It became habit .  i chose not to follow "the crowd" here and ride without a helmet.

Funny, when you take the motorcycle safety course to pass the HI state MC operator's driving test, you're required to wear a helmet while on a MC.  But after you pass your tests and get your MC license/endorsement, helmets are optional on the roads and highways.

If you're refusing to wear a helmet as a way of telling the government "F Y", maybe you don't have anything upstairs worth protecting.

I had a commanding officer in VA who called motorcycles "donor makers."

And pretty much unenforceable…. :D

According to at least one member, laws can deter crime all by themselves.  Enforcement is not needed because people fear the penalties related to noncompliance.

It must be true, because he believes it.

They should make laws mandating auto insurance, seeing how so many are reportedly driving on our roads uninsured.    :geekdanc:

The only law I want to see changed is to make lane splitting legal.
