Why aren’t all the tables used at rifle range?
« on: July 19, 2024, 02:47:43 PM »
Someone mentioned this in another thread so I thought I would post it as a topic

Is it because there are no holes for target stands….or more tables requires more RSO’s

Seems like a waste to have idle tables when people are waiting

I can see chaining some tables off when it is slow

they likely have a certain number of tables per rso
so if they are not staffed fully, they have to reduce the number of tables...

Makes sense.  Never thought about that.  I thought it was an issue that maybe it was too close to the highway.  Safety reasons.

And I guess the request for more RSO's will fall on deaf ears with the City, but I'd bet it would be welcomed, especially on the weekends.

The problem is people don't want the job.  Low pay $17hr I think?  and no benefits.  And they don't want to do the long drive to get there.  Probably even harder to get em to work a weekday 4hr shift.

Are positions still open?

Planned to apply but the applications were closed or was given an old link.

I continue to be very appreciative of how we have it on Maui.

You guys don't have volunteer RSO's over there? Why not?

Yeah.  Definitely see your points.  I was thinking retired people might be interested, not for the pay, but just something to do, get out of the house, meet people, make friends, and engage in something they love and believe in.

However, the daily drive out there will offset the poor pay and zero benefits for most.  Imagine closing up the range at 4pm on weekdays and then engage pau hana traffic going home if you live central oahu or the west side.  Ugh.

But, The Multi-Billion-Dollar Rail solved that problem.

One day it will.  But it will be the Multi-Trillion Dollar Rail by then.

What about letting them close the range at 4pm, then let them shoot until 6pm That might entice some retirees that want to go shoot an opportunity to fund some of their ammo. Work a 4 hours shift, then get a private range for their hobby.
