Recap:
In 2019 a guy was shot in the back at the capitol about 9pm while drinking.
Ordered to pour the drink and he refused and an argument began
Sheriff called for back up, but didn't wait because he stated "I thought I could take him". See below
Sheriff is 6'2; 205lbs; guy who got shot is 5'3 and 117lbs and had surgery on his leg for Polio years prior.
No video evidence, despite cameras at the Capitol.
"Lost" evidence as No body cam by the 8 officers who responded and no video of the interview by HPD at the capitol.
Evidence suggest the sheriff was pushing the guy onto his stomach when the gun went off.

Sheriff moved to CA and was involved in 2 more shootings.

State to settle for $750,000.

Opinion

Sounds like he didn't know how to deal with someone who's intoxicated.  Why his gun was drawn is a good question and it seems like poor weapon handling (finger on the trigger) if the events are correct since he was pushing the guy onto his stomach while gun drawn or trying to tackle someone with 1 hand holding his gun.  If he is drawn, he should have created distance.
So much video evidence missing is a more important concern. I remember we had this discussion about body cams and how it's easy for stuff to go missing.  Here shows not 1 camera footage, but 8 different ones.

He should have waited for back up because you never know the strength or training someone else has.  And having more back up can help to deescalate the situation.  Or even what diseases the person has.  He thinking he could take the guy cause he's bigger than him is the wrong train of though.

Family should've gotten more money and Sheriff should've at the very least been fired and be barred from being LE again.

From the description, the sheriff should've been able to easily handle the situation on his own.  Not sure why he had a gun drawn unless the guy was going for the gun.  Even then he should've been able to easily fight him off.

Either the article let out the sheriffs statement about the guy going for his gun, or he didn't say this at all, so it didn't happen.  I'll lean more toward that it didn't happen. So poor gun handling.

I left out, retard and crackhead strength is a thing. So maybe the 5'3; 117lbs guy could scrap.

What's also interesting is that if CA did review the info from this shooting, they still hired him after the mistakes.  I get they have a shortgage, but this guy would seem like a liability and I'm sure his past would be used against him.
