So, I saw a clip from this Joe Rogan Experience episode with Bernie Sanders and had to go to the full video to verify it.
One thing to remember is that Bernie is a zealot. He cares more about his ideology and belief system than what the facts staring him in the face have to say. Is he lying, or are his handlers and staffers feeding him the information in a way that validates and affirms his beliefs?
Bernie brings up the topic of corruption in political campaign financing. In short, he blames the SCOTUS for a 10-11 yr-old decision that let's rich people donate as much money to political campaigns as they want, and
the result of which was President Trump winning.
Hold that thought....
From the transcript:
Bernie --> I think that's probably the worst decision that the Supreme Court has ever
made. So what is the result of that decision? The result of that decision, let's
take us to where we are today, is that Elon Musk, and I know Elon was on
your show, and he's here in Austin. huh? Okay and I've we could talk about
Elon, but he spent $270 million to elect Trump as president. Okay. i think
that's absurd that any one person ....
And Rogan breaks in to ask, "What's the most someone donated towards the Harris campaign?"
Bernie didn't know but tried to act like he did, "they spent a lot of money on Harris as well."
Rogan answered his own question: $1.5 Billion.
After looking at current numbers on OpenSecrets, the combined amount of funds received and spent by the Harris campaign was $1.9 Billion.
Of that $1.9B, 58.58% came from "Large donors". 58.85% = $1.113B
Compared to Harris' big money donors, Musk's $270M is not such an overwhelming amount that he should be singled out as the person who "bought" the election for Trump. it's just not factual.
I wish Rogan had pointed out that Trump couldn't have bought the election
when his campaign spent less than Harris.
HARRIS CAMPAIGNCANDIDATE COMMITTEE MONEY: $1,151,260,254
OUTSIDE MONEY: $842,989,903
TOTAL: $1,994,250,157TRUMP CAMPAIGNCANDIDATE COMMITTEE MONEY: $463,662,725
OUTSIDE MONEY: $988,954,718
TOTAL: $1,452,617,443My math tells me Trump spent about half a billion LESS THAN Harris, but for some odd reason, Bernie thinks he "bought the election?"
To make it fair, i checked large contributions for Trump as well. 69.38% came from large donors.
When you apply that to the $1.45B total, that's $1.011B -- which iis $102M less than Harris' large donor total of $1.113B.
Bernie came to the podcast interview well prepared with lots and lots of notes and source material. Yet, his conclusions are based on faulty logic and misrepresented facts.
The gaslighting never stops with these evil people. They can't admit that Trump beat them TWICE, and they have nobody to blame but their party.
