The scariest part about this is that there was no predicting it, no defending it, no avoiding it. Just bam, you are attacked and quickly die. In that situation best you could do is sit in a seat with your back to a wall and hope you could get your hands up in time.
I can personally identify with what you are saying.
I was attacked by some psycho kid with a linoleum knife while I was walking to class in 8th grade.
Came out of nowhere slashing at me, completely unprovoked, at a very expensive private school, no less.
I was just a kid, didn’t know how to disarm him, etc.
Did get a small cut on my face.
Thing is, I’m embarrassed to say that to this day, I’m still taken aback for an instant, when jumped by crazies meant on doing harm. It’s like I just can’t believe it - in that first instant.
Maybe the secret is to live as if you are already dead to this world, I.e. learn to just react. Expect things to try to kill you like you expect bad traffic.
