Being an olde farte trained on iron sights, does that Savage come with those?
A certain model, I don't remember offhand which, is available with irons.
However, that model comes with the crappy plastic stock. That model is less expensive, and the sights are not as good. My sights are not all that great either, just slightly better.
Nothing like the high end stuff the serious rimfire guys use, but they work fine for my amusement, and practice. This is something I put together myself. Boyd's Tacticool stock and Lyman sights. Instructions on a conversion is on rimfirecentral.com in the Savage section.
Mine is actually a MKII BV, a little more expensive than the base model. I would recommend one of the heavy barrel models such as this one. Also, one issue I always have is with the magazines. Some times the feeding is finicky and I have to play with the feed lips. Most times I just shoot single shot anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. With Wolf MT or SK this pup is able to shoot holes touching, at 50yards with a scope mounted, if you hold right.
