Distances of Steel Plates at KHSC Rifle Range
« on: November 06, 2010, 07:20:12 PM »
Does anyone know the distances of the steel plates on the rifle range? I have an idea of the approximate ranges of the plates from fellow shooters, but was wondering if anyone had any concrete data on them?

Just to be clear, you're not talking about the range on the far right are you?

No, not the silhouette range. The rifle (middle) range.

What I want to know is how far the target (when standing in the shotgun lane, on the rifle area) that is up past the berm to the left, there is a Horse shoe metal stand, with a target on it.  That was what we were shooting at iron sights when i was at the range. Someone estimated about 200 yards, but I am not sure.

The numbers I hear most commonly:

the closest steel targets are 200 yards.
the deer is 250
the gongs in the sandy wash are 300
the diamonds on the hillside are 400
the gong in the gully is 440

Now, I don't know where those numbers are measured from, since obviously they will vary based on your placement on the firing line.  I do find that using those values, though, I am able to achieve consistent hits both with my Garand and with my scoped 1903a4.

I've tried to verify those numbers using an optical rangefinder, but my findings vary widely.  I'd love to have someone with a laser rangefinder conform them.

Pretty close.  Laser rangefinder #'s from lanes just in front of the "V" cutout past the 100 yard berm.

The numbers I hear most commonly:

the closest steel targets are 200 yards.  220 yards to single steel plate on far left.  Closet set of hangers 235 yds.  The road that cuts through is 200yds.
the deer is 250 265 yds
the gongs in the sandy wash are 300  310 yds
the diamonds on the hillside are 400 correct
the gong in the gully is 440 450 yds

Now, I don't know where those numbers are measured from, since obviously they will vary based on your placement on the firing line.  I do find that using those values, though, I am able to achieve consistent hits both with my Garand and with my scoped 1903a4.

I could tell you some numbers from the top of the ridge above the lower combat ranges across the crater, but that would be mostly just for trivia.   :)
