Saiga 12
« on: August 24, 2010, 03:08:22 PM »
Went to Gun Source today was really impress by the inventory.  I had my eye on a Saiga 12.  How many compines make this gun? Are they made directly from Russia?  How is the reliability?  Is it the same as an AK?  If I do get it I'll get the drum mag too!!

Only one company makes the Saiga, Izhmash out of Russia. There are many people and companies that customize them though. I believe the going rate for a stock one new is about $500-$600.

I don't have any direct experience with their line of semi-auto shotguns but have heard great things about them. From what I hear, they are very reliable depending on what magazine you are using (stay away from ProMag). They are probably not as good with the drum mags.

If you end up getting it, I'll expect a full review :P

Thanks for the reply guys.  I might have to hold off until my wedding. But yeah it's a very sweet looking gun.  I'm sure I'll give a review..

I got to shoot one at the HRA annual meeting.  It handled well, pointed quickly, and broke clays.  No malfunctions in the 10 rounds I shot.  Honestly, it was far from the sweetest 12 gauge I've ever shouldered, very middle-of-the-pack.  If it weren't for the detachable magazine system, I'd never give it a second look.

But with that detachable magazine, and particularly with the drums, I think we've found the king of zombie survival tools!

Maybe that didn't come out right. I just wanted to say, "It's easier to embed youtube videos than you think. Here's the way :)" ....or something like that :)

So is Gun Source the only place that stocks these (besides E-Tac)? I went there today and like most firearms I hold, I need to have immediately

That Saiga in the video looks a lot different then the normal Saiga's. I def like the AR style magwell over the AK style magwell in the common Saiga's. Loading w/ a full mag is not as easy as it looks!
