I would say Ruger, even though I have a P22. Never had any problems with it, other than the plastic front sight falling off. Upgraded to Hi-viz, problem solved

Disclaimer: I've never shot either, but I have handled both in a store.  I'd go for the SR22 over the Walther.  I thought the fit and finish was better and it was slightly easier to find magazines (well, at least at the time don't know about now days).  Also the replaceable backstraps of the Ruger were very nice and can fit almost any hand.  I thought the safety on the Ruger was also a little easier to use and more of a positive "click" than the P22.

I like my walther P22.  if I ever move to a state which allows me to support a suppressor, the walther will accept it without having to buy a special threaded barrel.  the only thing about the p22 though is that mags are freaken hard to find and they were outrageously priced before everything went crazy.

As much as I love Walther, I would either consider the Ruger SR22 or the M&P22 (which incidentally is actually produced by Walther for S&W), the P22 was too prone to jams even after cleaning and using various 22 ammo.

My vote is for the SR22 also and if you get her either the raspberry colored one or the "lady lilac" she will love it forever!  My only caveat is the safety which is backwards - down to decock/safe, up to fire.  Especially since training from the get go.  Could cause muscle memory problems later?   I don't know why they did that.

Agreed, when trying out the Ruger the backwards safety always looped my mind. When in doubt, clear the chamber and eject the magazine.

It caused problems for Hickock45 too in his video review.  Draw, safety down, on target on finger, pull and (____).  heh heh heh!  <--- trademark H45 laugh  :)

I'm thinking to treat it as a revolver/no thumb safey and not use it all?   We'll see.

You bastard, I already told you SR22.  You're gonna be salty when we're at the range and your gun keeps jamming and mine keeps on rocking.  Read the reviews on line, common consensus, P22 jams, SR22 doesn't jam.  SR22 even comes with 2 grips, one for asian girly hands like yours and one for manly hands like mine, the albino Hawaiian.  Plus, the new ones come with threaded barrels, even though they cost a little more.  Jimmy just bought one for Jen.

Read it.

http://www.theshootersdepot.com/ruger-sr22-pistol-vs-walther-p22/
Key point about the Walther as stated in the article. "Umarex (parent company of Walther) is the actual maker of the “Walther” P22, and though the pistol is made in Germany, it’s not made at Walther’s main Ulm facility.  Those expecting the fit and finish of a Walther PPK or PPS are going to be disappointed; it’s adequate, but not exceptional.  Smith & Wesson imports the pistol, and supplies warranty coverage."

I know when I hear Walther, I have to put it in the proper context. The old Walther's are a lot different than the new ones and the quality is not poor but nowhere close to the quality of firearms made at the Ulm facility., which were top notch. I don't have firsthand experience with these particular subject firearms but I do know the new Walther's are not of the same quality as the old Walther's.

That is why the M&P 22 is a better choice than the P22 imo, the difference between these two Walther guns is like night and day. Any 22 made at the same facility as my PPQ is already a winner in my book. Though I am still on the fence between this and the SR22 for me from the price issue.
