« on: May 16, 2013, 09:59:58 PM »
Had my eye on the tisas 1911 from buds. Comes out to $435 shipped, insured, and lifetime warranty. Reviews are excellently figure it would be a good introduction into 1911s without breaking the bank

Thoughts?

The sights and the grip safety would be something to look at.

Maybe consider the RIA 1911 Tactical .45 acp.

I have the Tisas Zig M 1911 from Buds and I love it more with every range trip. I have yet to have a single malfunction after ~600 rounds and it works with every type of magazine I have tried. Feel free to stop by the pistol range next thursday and try it out, I should be there.

I've been looking at this one also.  Reviews on other forums have been really positive.  Been wanting a trp operator.......(i know completely different class).......but for $400 or so I don't think you can go wrong.  Wish I had some real world info for you but based on what I've read everywhere a lot of people say to get 2.   :shaka:

I think a lot can go wrong.  IMHO you shouldn't skimp on a 1911.  When the price goes down it's at the expense of fitment.

Can't say this is the case for the 1911 being talked about here, but if you ever saw a Taurus 1911, it's pretty horrible.

Agreed.   I always thought you had to spend at least a grand for a decent 1911 example, but this model seems to be an exception.   Im still lusting after a trp.  A buddy of mine has one, its a great piece.  That being said i think there are a few examples that buck the trend, with polytechs and norinco AKs being a good example, at least in the 80s.

It is nice to know that there are well made inexpensive models to be had out there, you just have to find them,

Sometimes by going with something too inexpensive when trying a new platform may leave you with a bad experience.
Thus turning you away from the platform all together.
I think this is especially true with 1911s.

I guess it all depends on your expectations.

The typical GI models are not always so easy to master (small sights, hammer bite, etc.).

I know nothing about this specific brand, so I cannot speak from experience regarding it.

I can however attest to the fact that I have wasted a lot of money with 1911s when trying to save some.

when buying tools for work & toys for play, I live by 2 rules:

1) If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
2) Buy once, cry once.

I know a dude that has this and he almost has me convinced...

I don't have a girsan but it comes from the same Turkish factory as tisas and regeant so they're  probably great for the price as well.
