I was at the LIFE/HRA fun shoot today.  It was absolutely awesome!  The morning session on handgun work was good, but the multi-gun, multi-media team competition in the afternoon was a blast!!!  Oh, so good to be back having gun fun in the sun!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Sunday afternoon someone's Mosin Nagant rifle blew up--the last 3 or 4 inches of the barrel near the muzzle shattered.  Luckily no one was hurt.  I only saw the picture from one of the RO's cellphone, but several guys on the left hand side of the range saw the aftermath.  Does anyone have info or a pic?

I was shooting my .270 and I fired off an old corroded round at the steel target--the primer blew out but the bolt design did it's job and vented gases safely away from my eyes, although I felt some of the blast on my cheek.  Always wear safety glasses!

Got there at 12. Rifle and pistol side was wide open. Too bad for the guy whose MN muzzle blew up. Hope he still has enough barrell to make a carbine :)

Please post any more info about the Mosin explosion if anyone hears about it.  I'm curious whether the gun was a first purchase after rearsenal, prior owner and well used, headspace and firing pin checked, and if the cosmoline was totally cleaned out of the barrel.  Damage at the muzzle vs bolt makes me suspect a blockage, such as a squib or cosmoline.

So many variables, including the ammo used.  I've read that a pressure check on a Mosin ran up to 120,000 PSI before they gave up trying to make it fail!
When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".

Good thing it wasn't a carbine to begin with.
