Does any other manufacturer produces a semi-auto pistol that has a "loaded chamber indicator"?  So far I only found one made by Kahr Arms in 9mm

Any pistol allowed to be sold in the State of Calfornia. They have to have Loaded Chamber indicators if they're california legal models.

Glocks have one, at least in the Gen 4. There's a rectangle tab on the extractor that sits a little high from the slide when there is a round in the chamber. It's easier to feel than to see, at least for me.

The P08 (Luger) has one.

Thanks to all your replies I went out and check some 9mm pistols and ALL that i've seen had some sort of "loaded chamber indicator".  Mostly comparing pistols with the types of safety features.  The 9mm should be both safe and enjoyable for my wife to shoot.

When I first got the XD I thought "Chamber indicator? Just another fiddly little part to clean... Oh, well."

But they're really handy. I don't think I will follow CA and require them for all future guns I purchase, but having a quick visual and tactile way to tell that a round is chambered or not is nice. Same with the cocked indicator. With a hammer its easy to tell and I think I'd miss the visual indicator... even though it isn't necessary. I still double check for safety - very visibly when I'm around other people - but there is a certain sense of confidence that goes with the indicators. Kinda like having a car with RPM's on the dash: not necessary but its nice to know what's going on in the engine.

Have read that, when dirty, the loaded chamber indicators on certain handguns can get sticky, and may yield a false "positive."

I purchased a mod for my Mark III to get rid of the LCI since, to me anyway, it is another (unnecessary) part that can fail.

I still have the LCI installed in my 22/45, but I did install a Bam bushing in my 22/45 'cause I hated the PITA disassembly and the half-assed mag ejection that comes with the factory mag disconnect safety feature!!

 

The Sam Lam bushing was the 1st mod I did - no brainer.  Although I completely disassembled the gun then realized that the manual did not have instructions for this.  Gotta LOVE google & Rim Fire Central!
