I agree with this.
Also, I think the quality of this forum would improve if it were required to have at least 3 references from existing members in order to participate.
I'm not sure how that could be accomplished though.
The idea would be that there would be much less chaff on the boards if other people actually know who you are.

What a bunch of garbage. Why don't you start a forum with these requirements and enjoy chatting with all four other members. This forum was fine until these crybaby threads started.

That's all I got to say about that.

Maybe if we treat our posts in the same way we handle firearms, we may be able to get along better.

An armed society should be a polite society.

This forum was meant to educate the shooting community, promote shooting sports, and preserve the 2nd amendment rights.
Noob bashing was not on the agenda from what I remember.

Seasoned Shooters with skills and experience should share with the younger less experienced ones, but should show some tolerance.

Have fun, but try not to be hurtful.

Don't blame me for crybaby threads. That is not me.

The idea of my message was that the anonymity of the internet tends to make some people "excessively chatty".
So my reasoning is that if there are people who actually know who you are, it would make the forum more civilized and productive.
As I said before, I do not know how it would be possible to accomplish the invitation idea. I believe some forums do implement a probation system though.

I embrace all new members who demonstrate a willingness to listen and show a level of maturity and commitment to the sport or hobby.
My open invitation in the reloading thread still stands. Those who have taken my invitation know that I don't just "talk the talk".

Saw the perfect example of this very recently at the range.  A shooter several lanes to my left apparently was having some issues with what I learned was a newly acquired firearm.  From what I saw, he handled safely, but a gentleman to his left apparently noticed that he may have been having some accuracy issues.  The more experienced shooter had been practicing Bullseye type shooting, took time from his session to help out and did it very politely and without any of the condescending attitudes I sometimes see and read.

Never once did I hear him say anything like "I've been doing this for xxx years or I've won xxx amount of awards", etc.  He just walked over, asked the guy what he was shooting today, and then asked if he would like some help.  Now, to the newer guy's credit, he accepted with an open mind and seemed willing to learn.  Seemed like he was the lucky recipient of a free shooting lesson from a much more experienced shooter.

I haven't seen that in a long time during my weekly trips to the range, and it reminded me of a time not so long ago when Jimmy took time out to help me when he saw me shooting holes in my frame with a Single-Six.  To this day, whenever I'm having accuracy issues, I still remember Jimmy saying, "front sight, front sight, make that front sight clear, then squeeeeze the trigger".  I'm pretty sure that new shooter will remember the tips he received that day for a long time also.

In my opinion, those two shooters made the firearm community a little better by the ways they interacted with each other that day.

I got no beef with you, oldfart, you seem like a stand up guy. My point is, this the Internet. People can say what that want without getting a fist in the nose. I have been on a lot of Internet forums, some that charge for membership or have some method of exclusivity. The open forums are always better. With the bad comes more good. My favorite gun forums are open like accurateshooter.com and thehighroad.Org. Savageshooters.com charges for full access and I think they suffer because of it.

This forum is awesome. The only thing I would like to see is ip addresses shown in the profiles so we can see through the douche bags with 2 or 3 user names...
