Looking for really good shooting glasses
« on: August 27, 2013, 02:03:13 PM »
Anyone know of really good shooting glasses? Are there real benefits to spending the extra money? I saw this one and was wondering why these are so expensive and will it improve my sight through a scope or something like that.

I have Rudy Project. They have an excellent lens replacement policy.

Before the set I have now, I just used whatever sunglasses I had. Many will say Oakley lenses are good optics and aren't supposed to scratch as easy, but they scratch just as easy as any other pair of sunglasses that I've ever owned.

I use Rudy Project as well and agree they do have a really good lens replacement policy.  The model I use are very light-weight and comfortable.  They make different types of lenses geared to different uses and the lenses are easily switched out.  They have a set geared specifically for shooting sports which includes different color lenses.

I prefer the Rudy's over Oakleys, but that's just my opinion.  There are some downsides though.  They can be expensive depending on the type of lenses chosen, and for me anyway, their polarized lenses don't seem to be on par with other polarized lenses I've used, like Bolle or Kaenon.

I have the Rydons with the polarized ImpactX lenses. I've already had to replace one set of lenses after dropping my eye pro on a rocky range in Alaska. I agree that their polarized lenses are just ok. I have Oakley (work discount) and Spy for my car and I like them a lot better than the Rudy for clarity. I like Maui Jim, but those suckers are just too damn expensive.

Does anyone think the color of the lense helps? I have one that can do black, red, orange, yellow, and clear.

i found the yellow tint in these glasses helped for clarity but this 2nd pair helped me line up my sights so much better.

I have the Rydons also but with the Polar 3FX lenses.  I prefer these brown lenses over Oakley's brown lenses.  Took some getting used to though as they are definitely a different brown than most other glasses I've used.

I only have grey (about 12%-30%) and a light tint (50%-80%, I think) that are both photochromatic. I haven't tried other colors like red, yellow, brown, copper, etc. I know they are supposed to help in certain light, but I just have gotten used to grey lenses for both shooting and golf. Maybe eventually I'll try different colors for my Rydons and Oakleys. Both have tons of different lens colors available.

I usually switch to yellow if its overcast, seems to help brighten everything up.  Also helps to make the front sight seem more distinct.  Just a heads up though, I've found that using yellow lenses for the better part of a day when it's sunny, especially in an open area like the action bays was really hard on my eyes.  Had a major headache and my eyes were fried after that match.  Now I keep my sunglasses on my cap if I'm using the yellow safety glasses and switch back if it gets sunny.

As long as you have Z.81+, you are good to go.

If you look around you can try and find some transition type lenses, that way you're covered for most situations.
