Would-be thief pulls gun on Iraq vet

Looks like this dip shit tried to rob the wrong guy. "A closed circuit camera in Missouri caught a man attempting to rob a store — only to have a gun pulled on him by the employee behind the counter, Jon Lewis Alexander, an Iraq war veteran with 30 years of military service. When the would-be robber pulled a gun on Alexander and demanded money, his military training took over. Alexander pushed aside the man’s gun while reaching for his Walther PPX 9 mm handgun in his back pocket, planting the gun in the criminal’s mouth."

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

"How come your shot went into his mouth and took the top of his head off?"

If this is supposed to be surveillance video, then why is the camera moving and zooming?
It looks to me like somebody is on a ladder with a handheld video camera.

They're probably trying to save the recorded video from the DVR and thought that making a recording of the TV screen with their phone was the easiest way to do it.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Here is the article and actual surveillance video. The youtube video looks like whoever posted to youtube zoomed in...probably to highlight it somewhat.

I'm no Tactics Junkie, but I've worked out a couple of scenarios in my Personal Tactical Training Area (my living room with the big mirror) and I decided that at bad-breath ranges, it is rarely a good idea to have the gun extended in one's hand, but to keep it close to one's body.  This, to deter (not prevent) a disarming move from the opponent.

Yet the clerk seems to increase his vulnerability by extending the firearm into the other guy's face.

Strikes me this is some kind of training film to show what not to do.

And he lets the guy walk away --still armed, as far as I can tell.

I have no doubt that the incident (clerk prevents robbery by presenting his own firearm) happened, but somehow this clip itself strikes me as very odd, as if it were a mere re-enactment, directed by a non-tactically-oriented person.

Apart from the self-evident fact that the BG presents a weapon, putting the clerk in an obvious "in fear of death or severe bodily harm" situation, thereby justifying a self-defense shot, what would you have done in this situation, assuming you could be legally carrying behind the counter?

Likely waited to have a moment of surprise.  If that crumb had been committed to the problem (the robbery) I think we would have had a murder on our hands.   He just like casually let's this store owner grab his gun lol.  Of course, this is also all from watching a video and not being there.  But, I'm glad the guys is alive and not shot in the face.  It might be a good example of someone having to respond to a stimulus (the bad guy responding to the storeowner) where the thought didn't process all the way yet.

Yeah you are right.
It is a fair assumption that the store clerk studied more Hollywood movies than defensive handgun training videos.

so robber pulls out gun but never actually points it at the clerk, clerk draws gun and sticks in robber's face. Could the robber shoot at the clerk and claim self defense?
