finally took my hunters ed class and havent yet been to any of oahus public hunting areas. just curious as to which areas are the best to hunt hogs. my cousins all hunt on private land and have nothing good to say about the public areas. what are you opinions? are there actually any hogs in these public areas or is it a waste of time to hunt in these areas. also, i wont be hunting with dogs. i have been reading about guys who dig ditches and layer the hole with layers of corn and dirt until the hole is filled and then come back a couple weeks later and stake out and use a hog caller to get them to come back to their hole. seems interesting, just wondering if these public areas are  worth the effort or if they are all hunted out. btw i understand not every hunt is gonna be successful, as i have years of hunting caribou and moose in alaska. mahaloz!

The reason almost everyone uses dogs to hunt hogs is because the bush is way too thick to get a shot off. Generally the only places you can get a clear shot on em are in pastures (aka private land). Why not get a dog? The dog doesn't need to bite/attack em, just needs to keep the pig occupied long enough for you to get there. Would just need to find guys to tag along with and show you and your hound the ropes a little. Or just put the world out and try to network with ranchers.  Just show a boar last week in a pasture. Plenty action here on BI for that.

Good luck!

Or just shoot goats... you guys can do that on the westside, ya?
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. - 2 Kings 2:23-24
